I didn't get to watch any of the tennis apart from the very last bit of Serena's final against Li Na, but I agree it's always a pleasure to watch Federer, even when he loses. And while it might have been a neater ending to his story to retire after Wimbledon, I don't blame him for continuing. He obviously still loves the game, he is still very much competitive, and, well, if he retires, he won't have as many lucrative endorsements, and we won't get to see him looking edible in Rolex adverts anymore, so I selfishly want him to continue for as long as he's having fun and healthy.

*hugs* in re: hot flashes. I hope you're able to find some relief- it's not a fun process.

Well it's hard to blame him for continuing -- being addicted to the game, the audience and applause, and all that comes with it is only too understandable. I'm sure, though, that being the iconic athlete he is, he'd be doing Rolex and Mercedes commercials for a long time after quitting.

Yes, I hope so, too. Because I *hate* it.

Not really, no, but then it takes a certain mindset to get to be no.1, then down to 3, then back up to 1 again -- I don't quite understand how one copes with being no. 6 then, especially if there is no realistic chance of climibing back up again...
