First icon tutorial
This is my first icon tutorial. I'm not very good at explaining things, so I hope you can follow ok.

Get this screencap. Resize it.

Cut out the blue background.

Paste this texture as the first layer.

Duplicate it, set to Multiply 100%. Drag to top.

Duplicate alex (Layer 2). Drag to top. Desaturate image;
Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate.

Paste this texture on top. Desaturate it. Set to soft light 100%.

Crop this texture to 100x100. Set to screen.
Erase the top 3/4. Desaturate it. Set to screen 100%.

It looks too white now so set eraser to 50% and erase the white bit on the left. Leave the white on Alex though.

Layer -> New adjustment layer -> Gradient map
