Has anyone seen my wife Mary? [Theres a certain distress to his voice, even a little exhaustion laced in his words. As if he was making this after running around town.]

I haven't seen her all day and I can't get a hold of her through the pokegear... Her pokemon are here with me and... Oh god.

[He falls silent for a few moments. As if maybe ( Read more... )

[There's silence for a few good seconds. He's a bit surprised to hear Karkat, even more when he hears what Karkat has to say. Surprised, but thankful.]

...I figured as much... [His voice is so heavy sounding--maybe even tired, defeated? There is just so much emotional drainage in the dejected sounds that it's almost painful to hear.]

[But then it sinks in what Karkat had said, about going through something similar]

...Wait, you lost someone like this too? [He sounds concerned, almost as if pushing aside his own grief to try and be the comforting one instead.]

Oh.

With how this place is, I can see how that could be a problem. So let me guess, he doesn't remember anything? [James hated to admit this was a bit weird to be talking to Karkat about his boyfriend, but he wasn't going to make any comments. James wasn't really the judgmental type--except towards himself, so despite the oddity of it, he'd try and help best he could.]

I--That is if she does come back...

See... I-I was surprised to see her here in the first place... Seeing as, well... She d--died three years ago... [There was a hitch in his voice as he said that, his tone was completely melancholy and distant.]

... Y-your wife?

I haven't, but... Maybe she just stepped out for a bit or somethin'?

[James makes fun of the thing, so it's okay Soul.]

Yes, she was here with me--had been for a long time now...

I.. I have the feeling that isn't the case... Wouldn't I be able to contact her still?

... She probably went back then, I guess.
S-she... she was your wife back where you came from too, right?
So you don't have to worry about...

[He trails off, obviously not going to finish that sentence any time soon.]

That's what I feared... [He trails off a bit, thinking on what exactly that meant.]

Yeah, we were married before we showed up here... I--Worry about what? [You got his interest with that, go on Soul.

... [There is a pause before james speaks again, he feels his breath hitch as he tries to say something. He really just doesn't want to admit it, even though he knows it's true.]

Yes. I-I guess so, I just.. I can't find her anywhere and I can't c-contact her... [There is so much distress in James' voice and features. He just doesn't really know what to do, or think about this. He was so happy to finally have her back, to see her again, to have her here with him and now...]

[Now?}

[She was gone just like before, leaving him all alone and scared. He was grateful for the time anew, but now it just makes this seem like an even bigger slap to the face. A temporary taste of what happiness he had before, but lost and now that he's lost her again--he just doesn't know what to do. His heart aches and he feels a little sick thinking about this. But he doesn't say anything, doesn't mention it. But somehow, he feels Heather probably knows how he feels right now.]

[Yeah, she actually does. ... As much as anyone can. So she too is silent for a little while.]

... I'm back in Goldenrod. You wanna meet me somewhere?

[She doubts James is reacting in a manner that even slightly resembles how she did when her father disappeared. He wasn't that type. But that didn't mean he needed to be alone right now. She had a feeling that he probably DIDN'T.]

[As much as James thought he wanted to be alone right now, the feeling did a 180 when she suggests that. If anything, it makes him realize how much he didn't want to be alone. How much he wanted the comfort of someone else, even if it was just their presence. That way he didn't feel like he had entirely lost something--someone.]

...I think that'd be for the best. Where?

[He's being short with his replies, not because he wants to be short with Heather, but because he's finding it hard to focus on anything other than the fact he just lost his wife a second time.]

[Byrne doesn't know who you are, but he's gonna try to help you anyway!]

I'm sorry your wife's missing. What does she look like? I'll keep an eye out for her.

[He appreciates it, he really does--although he's not entirely sure if she's just gone missing or if she really did return home. He's trying to stay optimistic--but that really isn't happening.]

I--Thank you, she's about average height and weight, she usually wears pink dresses with flora patterns, she has long brown hair usually worn in a bun... [He trails off thinking a bit.]

If you see her, please tell her to contact me... But... I have a feeling, she might have actually gone back... [The dread in his voice is so heavy, it was like the atmosphere around him was weighing him down.]

[Byrne can tell you're upset, so he's trying to look as encouraging as possible.]

Hm. I don't think I've seen her before, but I'll definitely be on the lookout. And her name's Mary, right?

[Pausing at your last statement there.] ...Don't worry, I'm sure she's alright.
