Absolutely with you on this, speaking (for those who don't know me) as a recent and enthusiastic (OK, maybe just a bit fanatical) cyclist myself. I got an utterly boggled look this morning from a driver in Leyton; I was waiting beside him as an old and slow woman crossed the road in front of us...

While I will readily admit that cyclists who break rules mostly put themselves in danger rather than anyone else, I think some slightly more visible enforcement of the rules would help to improve attitudes to cyclists in general.

(As would removing cycle-lanes, but that's a separate rant.)

One could certainly argue that cyclists should be allowed to take one-way streets against the traffic flow; they are in large parts of Europe, and it doesn't seem to do any harm. But as things stand, them's the rules.
