I find that in instances like this there are few things that truly help the situation, though I do happen to know that something warm in your belly and a good shoulder to lean on is often a very good start.
[This is her volunteering to come and sit with you, Kevas.]
[And she is! Its likely she was wandering randomly about the boat anyway, she gets terribly bored in her room. She comes right up to him, wedges herself very carefully in between the barstools, and promptly gives him a tight hug.]
[Kevas doesn't say a word and just returns the hug as tightly as he can without hurting her. It seems he's under the impression that if he let's her go she'll vanish too.]
[She lingers as long as he needs, arms locked as firmly as space allows. Words are sometimes just not appropriate, and anything she can think to say would probably sound very trite indeed.]
Oh, I've no doubt about that - you're quite the strong one, from what I know of you and have seen thus far.
[Except she thinks maybe this loss might have hit a bit closer to home than any of the other ones previously. Still though - Alice has enough tact left within her not to ask or push. Instead she's perfectly content to sit here and keep him company until he either 1) drinks himself so far into a stupor that she has to help him to bed, or 2) shoos her away.]
Exactly. It gonna take a lot to put me down fuh good.
[Although right now Kevas doesn't feel strong. He feels tired. He's tired of always losing people he cares about. He's tired of worrying who will be next and if he can stop it. Times like this he just wants to disappear and forget.]
Well, we most certainly don't want that to happen. [Alice looks very ruffled.]
Wherever would I be without my dear troll? I rather think I'd be quite lost - so there it is: You simply musten't ever be put down for good, because then I truly think I might go entirely mad. [As if she weren't already. Then again - being quite mad and entirely mad might very well be two different things.
And the kind of mad she's speaking of isn't a good kind, anyway.]
[No he mustn't. Too many people on this boat rely on him. He remembers what his Zelda told him after he came back and sighs. Looks like the only way for him to get any sort of rest is to wait until everyone he knows disappears.
Once that happens though, Kevas doubts he'll have the will or strength to keep going.]
Don't worry. I ain't gonna quit on jah, not on any of jah. Somebody gotta be here to look aftah joo all.

Well, I certainly hope that you know I will not be quitting on you either - I would think that to be rather unfair, don't you think?

Guess it would be wouldn't it? Dat be good to know. It be takin' a load off my shouldahs.
[It doesn't really. He knows at any moment Redd could take her away from him like he took Nabooru.]
