Anyone who has ever been in the military, or who has even more than a passing connection with the military is familiar with the term "hurry up and wait". I'm sitting in the USO at Norfolk, waiting for a plane that will not arrive for at least two and a half more hours. I'm here; now it's time to wait ( Read more... )

Okay, I sort of did a comm job over there in the desert. I never really talked a whole lot about what I did over there but it was fun. I didn't think so at the time, there was alot of reasons why I did not want to be over there, but after a while I just got to know the people. Granted I did have my moments, especially when it came to dealing with Sgt Hall, but all in all.. you really do make memories over there. Granted your base probably is going to be more outfitted then my base in Qatar was, you'll work six days a week, twelve hour days.. but you know what, you'll make memories there.

What I'm saying is.. go into it with an open mind. Remember that you'll be in danger, I had been in danger a few times -but- there are people out there who are trained to do their jobs just like you, SPs who you can rely on.

I know you're right. I am very resistant to change, but I'll find what I need to make this deployment something more than simply tolerable. Strange, how quickly I forget that the SPs are there. For some reason I keep imagining that I am going to be isolated and on my own. Too many SERE CBTs I guess.

If nothing else, you'll be in great shape, and utterly prepared to take over a South American country when you return. I know you try -not- to get attached, and remain aloof, but I pretty much agree with Nia on this one.
You are a much more social creature than you lead yourself to believe.
And, making a few friends could lead to having gaming partners in your scant off-time, no?
