Maybe I walked under a physics ladder... or maybe I opened a physics umbrella indoors. Whatever I unintentially did concerning physics, it's coming back to haunt me in the form of bad luck. Let me
explain.
In Grade 11 physics, Mr. Williams had given me a mark of 0 on one of his eccentric writing assignments - something concerning time and measurement thereof before clocks and the like were invented - on the grounds of plagiarism. After a heated e-mail debate, my mark was reinstated to a perfect grade. In defence, he claimed that the writing had been far above what he expected at a high school level; as well, in reading the first part of the essay, he had decided that it hadn't focused on the assigned topic, anyways. But... after he read thoroughly, he decided it did address the issue.
That was grade 11. Flash forward one year to today. I had had my Waterloo Architecture interview on Wednesday, and I would be missing a chapter 5 & 6 test in physics. I informed Mrs. Maghami on Tuesday, and she said it would be acceptable for me to write the test on Thursday. All was fine at that point. However, I made the mistake in assuming that I would be writing the test during class time. After all, no other time had been specified, right? From my recollection, there hadn't been. Rest assured, I would remember something as vital as writing a test at an appointed time.
When Mrs. Maghami came into the classroom this afternoon, she exploded at me. "Where were you? Do you think you can write your test now? You were not here this morning, and you expect me just to give you your test?" The class was silent. I tried my best to explain that I hadn't been specified a time, so I thought I would be writing the test during class time. That didn't help. She shouted with finality, "That's it! You don't know, so you get to write the test whenever you want? Mark of zero, end of story!". Non-negotiable. That was it. A mark of 0 on a test that I didn't have a chance to begin writing. I thought to myself... this isn't not right. Marks of zeros are for delinquent students and the ones apathetic to the goal of education. I don't want this be my first zero. Within reason, no one should get a zero unless they actually make an effort to fail.
After school, I went straight to the school office and spoke to Mrs. Pheonix about the issue at hand. She called Mrs. Maghami.. and after no success, she suggested that I set up a meeting between her, my parents, and I. Mrs. Pheonix told me she would supervise the meeting, and that reassured me a bit... she seems sympathetic to my cause, at least. Either way, Monday at lunch time will be when it all goes down. I don't know what I did to deserve such bad physics luck...
