I hate dealing with homophobes and reading about homophobic situations. D: So, I just thought, "Why are they asking a question like that?" and shot back with something.
such is life. it sucks. I've lost 2 friends (I guess they weren't really friends to begin with...) because I decided to be honest and tell them that I'm gay. good riddance. A friends was gay bashed when he was just 15. Another friend was disowned because she came out as lesbian. And people wonder why I'm so cynical.
I think I know how you feel. It's freaking frustrating trying to make those homophobes understand that this was never a choice. Why the hell would someone 'choose' to be gay in a narrow-minded stupid bigoted discriminating racist sexist homophobic unjust world?
Okay, I'm probably overreacting. As I tend to when it comes to matters like this. ^^;
Anyway, you should consider doing Queer Studies at uni (or college, I think you call it in the US). Very enjoyable and eye-opening.
Gay is going to be the last discrimination to go, I believe. I've actually made it through with a lot of luck, seeing as to how open my family is, but still, hearing things like what you have mentioned... it's quite upsetting. =(
I guess it's hard to understand for some people, but they don't even have to understand, just accept. I mean, we don't understand WHY we can't get into a heterosexual relationship, but we know we just can't. And, what you said about "choosing" is spot on. Why would we choose that? Seriously.
I would LOVE to take that. My gay friend has been talking about setting up a GSA club at our school. It wouldn't be hard to get members, since we have an open school, but the administration will probably flat out deny it. (They didn't even allow us to watch the Obama speech.)
Oh, and, don't worry about overreacting (I didn't see it that way) and how stupid LJ is. xD I really appreciate your response. =)
