Once upon a time in the land of Burbank, a prince was born. His name was Tommy. His father and mother, the king and queen, doted on him. In this kingdom there lived an evil wizard named Simon. The wizard had hoped to inherit the kingdom, but with Tommy’s birth that would never happen. He couldn’t outright kill him, so he placed a curse on him. On his eighteenth birthday, the young prince would prick his finger on a guitar string and fall into a deep sleep. He would only be awakened by true love’s kiss.
The King and Queen did everything that they could to protect Tommy from the curse. He spent most of his childhood hidden away. Music was forbidden in the kingdom.
Despite their best efforts, the King and Queen couldn’t protect their son. On the morning of his eighteenth birthday, Tommy awoke and found a guitar lying on the foot of his bed. He had only seen pictures of the instrument in books. He knew they played music and he knew that music was outlawed in the kingdom. However, he didn’t know anything about the curse.
For a long time, Tommy stared at the guitar. He longed to touch it. He wanted more than anything to make music with it. He didn’t know who had left it for him and he knew that his father would be mad of he found out, but he couldn’t help it. Carefully, he picked the instrument up. He loved how it felt in his hands. It felt natural to him. Slowly, he placed his fingers on the strings. He plucked them. He felt the sting of a cut on his finger. He stopped playing and looked at his hand. He saw the blood dripping from his finger. Suddenly, he felt dizzy and everything went black. He fell back on the bed.
The King and Queen of Burbank were devastated. They tried everything to wake their son up. Every princess in the surrounding kingdoms was brought to Burbank. Each took their turn kissing Tommy, but none awoke him. When the supply of princesses ran out, they began to allow common women their chance.
Meanwhile in the nearby kingdom of San Diego, Prince Adam had heard of Prince Tommy’s curse. He felt bad for the young man. He couldn’t imagine growing up with an evil wizard out to get him and no music. From the moment he was born, Adam had been surrounded by music. He didn’t play an instrument, but he had the voice of an angel or at least that’s what people told him.
There was no princess in the kingdom of San Diego, but his best friend, Allison was a duchess. She made the journey to Burbank to try her luck at awakening the sleeping prince.
Allison returned to San Diego having not been successful. She told Adam all about Prince Tommy and the land of Burbank. Adam found himself falling for the man who he knew almost nothing about. It didn’t freak him out though. He had known for a long time that he wasn’t interested in girls. He had told his parents and they were supportive. He had a feeling that they still hoped he would decide it was a phase and marry Allison.
For weeks Adam kept his ears open for news of Prince Tommy. They had almost exhausted the supply of eligible women in Burbank and the all the surrounding kingdoms. More than once, Adam thought about making the journey from San Diego to Burbank. He dismissed the idea. His parents would never allow it. Even if they did, the king and Queen of Burbank wouldn’t allow him to kiss the prince.
Nearly a year later, the search for Tommy’s true love had yielded no matches. His father and mother all but abandoned the search. They had their son locked away in a tower. They hoped that someday they would find a way to awaken him.
Meanwhile, the King and Queen of San Diego had decided that Adam needed to marry. They weren’t going to live forever. They wanted to leave their kingdom to a king and a queen. They determined that Allison would be a good match and set about making the plans.
Adam was not happy with this news. He loved Allison, but not in the way a husband should love his wife. She was more like a sister to him. Allison wasn’t any happier with the union. Her heart belonged to a minstrel named Danny. However, duty and loyalty was forcing them to get married.
A week before the wedding, Adam couldn’t take it anymore. He wrote his parents a note explaining his decision and left on his own in the middle of the night.
It took him nearly two weeks, but Adam finally made it to Burbank. He snuck into town and asked around about the Prince. No one knew that he was the Prince of San Diego. He discovered that Tommy was being kept in a tower just outside of the town and it wasn’t very heavily guarded.
That night, Adam made his way to the tower. He saw a light burning in the window at the top of the building. He figured that was where Tommy was being held.
In the cover of the trees, Adam circled the tower. He saw that there were only two guards. He could easily get pass them. He watched them until they left to sweep the area. Swiftly, he sprinted across the open space and into the tower.
Adam paused inside the door for a few moments to catch his breath. In front of him was a long staircase. He took a deep breath and slowly started climbing the steps. He was careful and quiet. He didn’t want the guards to discover him before he had the chance to kiss the Prince.
When he reached the top of the staircase, Adam saw a single door with light coming out from underneath it. Surely, Tommy was inside. He stopped outside the door and listened. He couldn’t hear anything so he assumed no one else was in the room.
Slowly, he opened the door. It squeaked a little. He paused and listened for any indications that he had been discovered. He heard nothing so he continued to push open the door.
Once Adam had the door open, he peered inside. He saw a sleeping form on the bed and no one else. He sighed in relief and walked into the room. Carefully, he shut the door behind him.
Adam crept over to the bed. Tommy was lying there perfectly still. Adam could make out the slight rise and fall of his chest to know that he was breathing. He looked so peaceful. Adam almost hated to disturb him. However, he had traveled all this way for a reason. He didn’t know if he would give Tommy the kiss to awaken him, but he had to try.
Adam sat on the bed and took Tommy’s hand in his. He just stared at him for several minutes. He was beautiful…even more so than he had imagined from Allison’s description. He had long blonde hair that Adam wanted to run his fingers through, so he did. He focused on his lips. They looked absolutely kissable, so Adam leaned down. Gently, he pressed his lips to Tommy’s mouth.
As Adam kissed the young prince, Tommy’s eyes flew open and he sucked in a deep breath. Quickly, Adam backed away. Tommy sat up and looked around. His gaze landed on Adam and he smiled at the dark haired prince.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Adam.” Tommy stated as he reached out for the other man’s hand.
“How did you know my name?” Adam inquired in disbelief.
“I’ve been dreaming of you.” Tommy answered simply. He reached out and cupped Adam’s face in his hands.
The two men stared into each other’s eyes. They only saw love. Slowly, Tommy leaned in and pressed his lips to Adam’s waiting lips. The dark haired prince sighed and allowed the kiss to deepen.
The next morning, the Queen entered her son’s room to check on him. She did it every day even though there was never any change in him. As she looked at the bed, she saw her son naked and in the arms of another naked man and shrieked. The guards raced into the tower and up the stairs. Adam and Tommy both bolted up in bed. Adam scrambled to cover them with a blanket. The Queen rushed over, wrapped her arms around her son, and wept. She was happy to see him awake. When the guards entered the room, she shooed them away without taking her eyes off her son.
“Mother, this is Prince Adam of San Diego.” Tommy introduced as he held his mother at arm’s length. Adam smiled at her. He hadn’t really been planning on meeting his future mother-in-law while he was naked in bed with her son.
“He’s the one that awakened you?” The Queen asked as she looked at Adam.
“Yes.” Tommy replied as he smiled lovingly at the man beside him.
“Thank you.” The Queen cried as she pulled Adam into a hug.
Adam smiled and returned the embrace.
“I must go speak with the King. We’ll have to contact the King and Queen of San Diego to arrange the marriage.” The Queen declared as she stood up and headed for the door.
Once the Queen was gone, Adam and Tommy turned to one another. They started laughing at the absurdity of the situation. Adam leaned in first and kissed Tommy passionately. The blonde prince wrapped his arms around his lover and pulled him down on the bed.
Two months later, Prince Tommy and Prince Adam wed. Their union brought together the kingdoms or Burbank and San Diego. With the curse lifted, music was allowed back into Burbank. Tommy learned to play the guitar. He and Adam spent a good deal of tie making music together. With Adam’s marriage to Tommy, Allison was finally allowed to follow her heart. She and Danny married soon after the two princes…And they all lived happily ever after.
