I sort of went through the same process last year even though I was sort of sure I knew where I would go. Even though I live thirty minutes away from home, I still chose to live in the dorms. I didn't apply to any out of state colleges and I'm beginning to regret not doing so. Everything (people, surrroundings) around me are familiar and sometimes I wonder what my life would have been like if I was further away. I feel like my sense of independence is hindered because well..I still talk to people who went to my high school..and I know that if I were in a place where I didn't know anybody or the surroundings, I'd be more willing to go out and explore.
I think everyone gets a little homesick in the beginning..but eventually you'll start having fun and then everything will start to feel more like "home". My roommate hated the city life, but eventually she grew to love it. Plus, you can always fly back on the weekends..I know a lot of people who go home kind of often despite the distance.
i think you will do very well at duke! i think you should go out of state and get a different experience, meet new people, and live without yr parents for a while! ut is a good school but duke is amazing and comes with a lot of respect nation wide. you totally earned yr way into that school...
haha i was actually really considering that going back to UT for MBA! well that is .. if they take me =] haha, but that would be ideal. either that or california. mmm =]
i think you're really brave for going out of state. i know that even though i'm so pro out-of-state schools right now it's gonna be harder than i think to actually leave everything i've ever known. but i hope all the new experiences will make me a more well-rounded, better person.
you'd do amazing at any school you went to, but you only have one chance to go to college. one chance to go away and experience that life by yourself. i hope you enjoy it. help us young'ins who still have to decide!
man, it really is so hard to go out of state. i think about it, and while it's slightly easier because a lot of my friends are also leaving, some of my very best friends are going to UT. i cried because i got homesick before even leaving (haha don't laugh). it definitely might be tougher, but i think it's could be a part of growing up .. of course you don't have to leave to grow up, but i think that this is the adventure i've always said i wanted, and now i'm finally going to do it!
ah amanda, why do you tease me so? =) im proud of you for making your decision. you've got more guts than i did at the time. college is what you make of it, and i know you'll have a wonderful time at duke. of course, i expect full updates on lj =P best of luck m'dear! <3
gotta keep everyone on their toes! hahaha =] i keep myself on edge, really. i don't know myself what will happen - but that's the exciting part. :P definitely keep you updated. i'm trying to finally do something as gutsy as i've always wanted to.
