I'm willing to bet those two deaf-mute sweethearts were "talking" about completely innocent things like making lemon pound cake and licking cake batter from the bowl. You (unsurprisingly) just picked up on "licking" and "batter" and automatically assumed they were children of the devil.

P.S.
Cake batter is yummy. Don't knock it until you've tried it.
