yay! Thank you! Your number seven makes everything so clear to me. XD And your number five, too. I was quite partial to Toshiba too, but they have a really garbage-y website. And my choices seem to be my old computer turned into a laptop for $1200 or like super-awesome machine of d00m for $3000. So, yeah. I'm actually really liking the Soiny ones, but they're kind of expensive. T_T

I built a REALLY decent machine on NCIX for $1700. Any idea what your budget is?

Um..um... I'm not sure. Sometimes she's all like "I want to buy you the best EVAR so you won't need upgrades!" and other times she sees the gateway commercials for $999 laptops and she's like "you need one of those!" and I'm like o______O

you COULD get less than $1700.. but you'd start losing features very quickly. x_x;; Personally, I like the ASUS machines. :o In the end, it's all basically the same parts. XD it's just what sticker you get withit. :p

The one I custom built could fulfil all that stuff, although I'm unsure about burning dvd's.
