This makes me sad.

Author Michael Crichton dies.

Some of you are going to no doubt be surprised that a literary snob like me would give a shit, but I had a huge crush on him in high school. And the mathematical concepts detailed in Jurassic Park were just hot, even if the characters were underdeveloped.

depressing shit

I was sad to hear about it too. I'll always remember how nice he was to me when he agreed to let me interview him on the phone for our school paper. :( He was a good person and a critical thinker and I did enjoy a lot of his writing.

The inner sixteen year old just died of jealousy.

He was a sweetie to me, we talked for like an hour. And then he sent us an autographed picture too.

I mean seriously, it takes a lot to put up with a twelve-year-old asking questions for that long (especially when he wasn't even getting paid, he was just doing this out of the kindness of his heart after my teacher emailed him to ask if he would), but he was totally gracious. <3

It's nice to know that he was a nice guy. Not that I thought he wasn't, but you know what I mean. When it happens, it's disappointing to learn that your childhood idols were assholes.

Agreed, I wasn't exactly a fan of his writing, but nonetheless...one less thinker in the world, regardless of what I think about his genre or the quality of his writing...is always a bad thing.

He wasn't much of a writer for writing's sake, but he had a big brain and wasn't afraid to use it. He made it cool to be a geek, and that was something I desperately needed in my adolescence.

I really liked Terminal Man, and really liked the movie (the book was OK) Andromeda Strain. It's a shame.

He did a lot for the true sci-fi genre, and for that he will be missed. :-(
