I. AM. NEVER. HAVING. CHILDREN. EVER.

Nov 26, 2008 12:35

I hate children. I hate them.

I got no sleep. The little fuckers have been up since o-dark-thirty running around, screeching, chasing my poor beleaguered cats, and generally making a mess of the place. I am not a morning person. I''m a night person, and thus went to bed LATE. So I've had maybe 2 hours of sleep that wasn't broken all apart by some ( Read more... )

I feel your pain. When my sister stayed I used to think I would die of exhaustion sometimes.

Oh, gack. You're giving me flashbacks of working in a Michaels craft store... I always joke around this time of year that every retail store has a screaming child they keep in the back and bring out just for the holiday season. I swear, there were days when I was this close to following behind any number of obnoxious spawn and screaming back at them. >.

One reason I did not have kids ( the main one ) was decided at about age 13 when I realized if I did, I would never have time to write, Unless I was a neglectful mother, but who can write with kids needing your time? If you have children you have to basically give up a lot of your own freedom, my sister says that. So that was it - writing or children. Plus I think the maternal instinct was left out of my make-up, as I have never in my life felt broody. You would be amazed ( or maybe not ) how many women I've worked with and met who think I am an aberration, and that something is wrong if you physically can get pregnant and choose not to.

Being a writer does not necessarily go hand-in-hand with neglecting your children - you just learn to cope with a lot less sleep so you can write after they're in bed. (I generally get to sleep around 3am and my kids wake up around 8am.) They are plenty of mothers who are successful writers and who make time to write at the expense of their own physical needs rather than their children's needs.

It does suck though, I'm not about to deny that. There's plenty of days I wonder WTF I was thinking when I decided to create my crotchdroppings.

Indeed, and the two pregnancies I _didn't_ decide on got terminated. I've got nothing against people who decide to keep unexpected pregnancies*, but it's just not for me. If I'm going to do something as serious as bringing another life into the world, it's going to be only when I'm ready and capable of being a good parent.

* Provided they step up and become good parents - I have nothing but disgust for people who choose to get pregnant or keep unexpected pregnancies and then allow themselves to be shitty parents.

No, I know...just when your house has been invaded by a pair of really awful examples, the horror kind of expands and fills the world. Quiet, calm, well-behaved children (such as the baby---Olexa really isn't so bad, considering she's a baby) I know what to do with.

I was going to make the same observation. But it takes parental effort and sense for them to turn out that way, along with some luck.

Oh, doll, I'm sorry. *snugs* Dealing with your own crotchspawn can be bad enough, having to deal with someone else's is just unbearable.

Any estimated time of "sister dearest, get the fuck out of my house and take your fuck trophies with you"?
