My desktop is infected AGAIN. It will need to be wiped AGAIN.

This time, however, I have the back-up disks. You know, from the LAST TIME. So it shouldn't take as long as it did THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I don't know what the fuck all happened. Part of my virus protection was turned off, and I have no idea how that happened. I think if one of those fucking goddamned kids touched my computer while I was out I'm going to break some fingers with a ball-peen hammer.

Some especially sneaky malware can disable antivirus programs, so it wasn't necessarily your sister's spawn.

You know I feel your pain, having had to deal with that shit so much myself recently. {{{{C}}}} Fucking PCs.

I don't run anti-virus, anti-malware or anti-anything software. I'm almost certain I've encountered infectious agents over the past year or more but I've never been infected by them.

But Young Geoffrey, how can this miracle be? I hear you cry.

In a word, Linux. Specifically, Ubuntu.

I'm still running version 7.10 and so can't (yet) personally recommend the latest flavour, but certainly 7.10 is very user-friendly (my mum has been running for a year or more) and comes loaded with open-source alternatives to office software, chat programs, graphic programs and even a Windows emulator if you absolutely must run actual Windows software.

Oh, and it's free. Feel free to ask me questions if you're interested in stepping into the future.

After years of becoming increasingly rageful at a long line of PC desktops re: virus protection/unnecessary program updates/system crashes et al. that I broke down and bought a MAC just fer shits an' giggles.

It was a used model and in 2 years it has only crashed once, which was entirely my fault. No viruses, no ridiculousness, no unnecessary bullshit. Just sexy capability. *sigh* Though I still do PC battle daily with my OFFICE PC...

Unfortunately, I am far too poor to buy myself a MAC. It has crossed my mind many many many times, believe me.

Sexy capability. Oh, there it goes. That's my mind wandering off down roads it has no business exploring when I have to get to class in a half hour.

LOL!

no seriously, it's worth saving yer pennies for a MAC. My used one is a Powerbook - tons of RAM and processing power - and it cost me less than $1000(Cdn.) taxes included. Considering that all of my program updates are free and they don't have a lot of built-in obsolesence, I think that they're worth every red, fuckin' cent.

(I say again: sexy capaibility...) ;)

Goddamn, those two words put together like that make me want to write VERY SPECIAL PORN. And I just can't, because I have the serious business to take care of first. Boohoo. :-(

But, I finished one class for the semester. So that's one down, three to go. YAY!

I have heard such about the MACs. I see them at school and I weep a little weep. And that icon is making me snicker. XD

You could get a refurb or used one. You can get a decent one for around $400... depending on what you need.

This would require having around $400 that I don't have.
