[News] If You Don't Buy One Concert DVD This Year...

...make this one it.

I sort of jest...but not really. As the concert that took place just a few days prior to the press release announcing Ayumi Hamasaki's diagnosed deafness in one ear, Countdown Live 2007-2008 10th Anniversary, it sort of makes sense that watching this made me wonder where Ayu had gone and what they'd done with her. Who was ( Read more... )

She was asked about retirement a lot, but the tenacious Ayumi (who said in a 2006 interview with CNN that singing is her life, and without singing she would have nothing) said she would "keep singing if it meant singing until she was deaf in her other ear, too." Pretty hardcore. I mean, this concert came RIGHT before the announcement in January, and prior to an AWESOME new single, so I thinks he's got fight left in her. Allen's going to see her 10th Anniversary Arena Tour in Japan, so I'll be sure to ask him for the straight story on how she sounds.

As for BEST OFs, she's probably got those in her contract. But it's likely once every five years (0__o IDEK!?!), because her BEST OF 2 was just released last year...

Do you mean Avex makes money on everything Ayu? I've seen TV version, it was painful to watch her sing like that T__T But I've already preordered my copy of DVD on CdJapan. I'm a reckless fan, I know X_X Sadly it should be her tenth anniversary DVD, guess they worked hard on it to clean everything up.

I completely agree with you. (HI! My name's Neffi, I subscribed a little while ago, been reading and lurking about >.> Nice to meet you! o^-^o )

When I watched the TV version, I was horrified and moreover, I was sad for Ayu. She was trying so hard, and yet it came out so wrong. As a big Ayu fan, I'll definitely be getting this DVD, but it's not on my priority list(as I'm trying to collect every CD and DVDs I've been missing on in the past year). It's too bad, because I quite liked the set up the the costumes...

Did they every figure out how she went deaf in one ear in the first place?

Tinnitus since 2001, say all the best resources and Ayumi herself. Which explains a lot of the eyebrow-raising moments at the peak of her popularity when she would cover one ear and look almost pained while singing live. Hm. :(

Ow. Roger Miller from Mission of Burma has tinnitus as well, only it was serious ringing in both ears (and he even identified the pitches!). That's why they first had to split up after Vs. came out, and why today onstage he wears those ear mufflers PLUS earplugs PLUS has his guitar amp in front of him and at the edge of the stage when MoB plays now.
