Tickets are purchased! Big Easy here I come! This'll be year 2 of going to Mardi Gras; Zach is as excited as I am. Apparently Shell is supposed to be having some party Feb 15th to watch the parades that night, Zach'll find out tomorrow if they are good spots or not ( Read more... )

Last year, we went to Disney World over Mardi Gras. It is, apparently, what all the wealthy, suburban Baton Rougeans do, though, so I won't be doing that again this year.

I'm trying to decide if we're going to make it to any NOLA parades. I want to, but I also have a huge problem with the Sea of Humanity. Can't stand crowds, so if we go, I'm guessing it will be to an earlier parade that doesn't get quite so crazy. (I've also had enough encounters with almost stepping in pink vomit while in the Quarter, don't wish to experience it up close and personal). :)

We're definitely going to parades in Baton Rouge, but I'm really hoping to get to NOLA for at least one.

If you watch the parades out where Zach lives its not bad. Its in the family-friendly zone. Seriously. The police there last year were going to throw some teens off the route if they kept up the language they were using.
I'm not big into the Sea of Humanity either though we might try and do one parade closer to the Quarter this year. Not sure. We only went there in the day time last year. Not sure either how I'd handle being around not only the Sea of Humanity but the Drunk/Stoned/High/Naked Sea of Humanity.
I really want to see Zulu this year. We didn't get to last year cause we had the route wrong. (He's not living that one down)

I love that they make the effort to make parts of the parade family friendly so everyone can enjoy.

Oh God, not the Naked Sea of Humanity! Definitely could not handle that. :)

I was really suprised by that last year. Everyone thinks that Mardi Gras is so raunchy and everything but its really only down in the French Quarter where you can do any of that stuff. When I told people I caught tons of beads they were all teasing me that I must have walked around half nekkid, but I didn't have to flash ever. Hell, I got a strand for taking a picture of a womans house. (She had lovely iron scrollwork and plants all over it. Simply gorgeous)
I'd like to go to some of the Balls. We watched a little bit of one on TV and OMG, the dresses and the pomp.
I'm getting worried though because two people have already requested the 15th off for whatever reason and they don't like to let too many people be absent on the same day..and I've already bought the tickets..I really don't want to get in trouble with them quite yet. Oh well. I get to talk to her tomorrow.
