My very first icons! I didn't do very many because I didn't really... like them? I just work with MSPaint and a very old, expired trial of Open Canvas that I cant really work well with. I need more fonts and brushes and... uh... Paint Shop Pro would be nice, haha. But I'm going to learn and get better [hopefully] and they're fun so yay ( Read more... )

Get a version of Photoshop. You can find a lot of bootleg copies, not that I have bootleg copy of CS2 WHAT?
Anyway yeah, Photoshop is your friend.
Then you can learn the wonder of layers and filters and all kinds of super fun adjustments that program lets you do.
Play with cropping too. A lot times just the way you crop an image can totally turn it from "okay" to "fucking awesome".

Yeah, with BSG icons at least, I found it really hard to resize. It just... wouldn't for some reason? And BSG is shot with a gritty camera for effect, so none of the screencaps are as clear as would be useful.

And I am horribly bad for some reason at finding bootleg ANYTHING. I can illegally download music like a snap, I know what websites and programs work and which dont, but for anything else im clueless. Would you be able to point me to a website I could get a bootleg copy of PSP?
