Since anyone likely to read this probably already knows that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favourite show ever, I'm going to take this further than everyone needs with a Top Ten list of favourite episodes.  (There are definitely more important and probably objectively better episodes than some of the ones below.)  Spoilers are rampant, obviously.  I'll put the titles below the screencaps so that any obsessives can try and guess the episode!  Fun!

Honorable Mention

Normal Again ~ Season Six.

Okay, so it's actually a Top Eleven list.  Buffy is plagued by hallucinations of a mental ward which start convincing her that her life as we know it is actually an elaborate delusion.  But the episode ends on a disturbing (albeit cool) note of ambiguity as to which world is reality.

10.

Buffy Vs. Dracula ~ Season Five

Dracula is given full justice in this amusing homage.  Buffy falls briefly under his thrall, perhaps not surprisingly, given her predilection for sexy vampires.

9.

Showtime ~ Season Seven

After a brutal defeat at the hands of the ubervamp, Buffy orchestrates a demonstration in fighting to the death for the potential slayers.  Not only does Buffy announce, "Welcome to Thunderdome," we also discover that she, Willow and Xander can now communicate via telepathy.  YES.

8.

Band Candy ~ Season Three

An evil magician puts something in the school chocolate that makes the adults act like teenagers.  Hilarity ensures.  Giles and Joyce go wild!

7.

School Hard ~ Season Two

The episode where we first meet Spike and Drusilla!  They come after Buffy at Parent-Teacher night.

6.

Fool For Love ~ Season Five

After Buffy is almost staked in what should have been an easy fight, she asks Spike to tell her how he killed two slayers.  We see Spike's past (including his life before he was turned, in which he wrote rubbishy love poetry), and he tells Buffy all slayers have a death wish.

5.

New Moon Rising ~ Season Four

Oz comes back and Willow comes out to Buffy about her feelings for Tara.  Willow and Tara get together -- yay!

4.

Gingerbread ~ Season Three

As an out witch through the last half of high school and the beginning of university (when this episode aired), I found this episode pretty frightening.  A demon causing mass hysteria prompts a witch hunt in Sunnydale.

3.

Lie to Me ~ Season Two

I think this is one of the funnier Buffy episodes.  An old friend of Buffy's tries to use her as bait to get Spike to turn him into a vampire.  A bunch of vampire wannabes are used as pawns in the scheme.

2.

Hush ~ Season Four

An episode almost entirely without dialogue with probably the scariest villains in the series (top three, definitely).  Buffy at its funny and scary best.

1.

Once More With Feeling ~ Season Six

The musical episode!  Enough said.
