CHARACTER NAME: Tsukino Chibiusa
SERIES: Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon (manga)
PERSONALITY: In the manga, Chibiusa is a generally sweet girl. She genuinely cares about her friends and hates to see them upset and suffering. When they are, she'll do what she can to cheer them up. She also wants to protect her friends as a sailor senshi and keep them from getting hurt. She's also very fast to make friends, attaching -chan to the end of their names (even for boys). She likes to believe in the good in people. Her heart tends to take over her mind, causing her to dive headfirst into situations involving her friends, running straight into the heart of danger or fearlessly onto a mysterious campus that could house the enemy.
Chibiusa has an Electra complex. She is in love with her father quite a bit at first, but that mellows out to become more of a desire to be looked at as a woman instead of a child. She still desires his affection and is incredibly clingly with Mamoru, but she wants him and Usagi to be together at the same time. Her desire to find a prince to love and share her life with possibly stems from seeing Usagi and Mamoru together and when she begins to fall in love with Elios, she claims she's having an affair, cheating on Mamoru, which is completely not the case.
Even with her sweet personality, being bratty isn't below her. Squabbling with Usagi seems to be a pastime, but this is more along the lines of sibling rivalry than anything else. She has a hard time believing Usagi will grown up and be her mother, but she soon accepts that (and continues to squabble with her). Chibiusa also has a habit of begging with puppy dog eyes when she wants something and gets away with it with Mamoru because she's just so darn cute.
Inside, Chibiusa has a severe inferiority complex (although it lessens by the end of SuperS). She begins to doubt herself more noticeably at the beginning of SuperS, believing that returning home she may disappoint her mother, not being strong enough. She the complex grows more intense when Elios is looking for the chosen maiden and she's not it, causing her to run away in a fit of tears. Her issues with being short and not growing up only contribute to this. She hates that she's stuck in the body of a child.
Chibiusa really looks up to Usagi as Sailormoon (almost to the point of idolizing), the heroine of the world. She is undefeatable in Chibiusa's eyes and Chibiusa strives to be as strong as she is.
Chibiusa also has a tendency to become very lonely. She seeks comfort in the arms of her friends, especially Usagi and Mamoru, as they are her future parents. She is also very close to Sailor Pluto and Saturn. She enjoys being around other people, especially those close to her.
Chibiusa also seems to have a bit of a daredevil side, as evidenced by the number of times she'll ride a really crazy roller coaster and enjoy every moment of it.
TIMELINE: End of Act 42 (End of SuperS)
BACKGROUND: Chibiusa is the heiress to the new Silver Millennium, daughter to Usagi and Mamoru, better known as Queen Serenity and King Endymion. She's actually over 900 years old, but hasn't aged or grown for centuries. She has the appearance of a 10-year-old and her powers remained dormant for a very long time. She was believed to be a false heiress for a long time. She moves to steal the Silver Crystal and prove her power at the same time the Black Moon attacks, causing the city to be encased in the city in crystal when Serenity moved to protect it. With Pluto's help, Chibiusa travels to the past to find the Silver Crystal of the past and save her mom.
Chibiusa first arrives, falling from the sky and landing on Usagi's head. She threatens Usagi with a gun to give her the silver crystal, but when Mamoru reveals the gun is a fake, Chibiusa flees. Usagi and Mamoru find her in the park. Chibiusa clings to Mamoru, no longer aggressively attempting to get the crystal. They take her to Usagi's house where Chibiusa hypnotizes the Tsukino family into believing she's family.
The Black Moon soon makes it's move and Rei is kidnapped. Usagi spots Chibiusa watching the whole ordeal and verbally attacks her, blaming her as being the enemy. She grips her necklace, which has the Time Key and a crystal on it, then flees. She ends up staying the night at Mamoru's place, after she arrives on his doorstep in the rain. Soon her dreams reveal, she's been searching for Sailormoon to save the future.
After Rei and Ami disappear, Chibiusa is enrolled 5th grade, where she meets Momo-chan and Kyusuke, who become fast friends, and where she first begins creating picture diaries. During her first week, one of her classmates turns out to be a vampire. With super garlic breath, thanks to Makoto's yakiniku from the previous night, Chibiusa helps the sailor senshi defeat the vampire. That night she dreams she was a powerful senshi like Sailor Moon.
After Makoto disappears, Mamoru hopes to get information from Chibiusa with the Black Moon earring they had retrieved from their last encounter with the Black Moon and the sight of the earring terrifies her. At first, she reveals nothing about why it terrifies her.
She soon steals Usagi's broach, but when Usagi, Mamoru, and Minako catch up with her, Chibiusa finally reveals what she's doing. She wants to get the silver crystal of the past to save her home, the future. There was an explosion that covered the 30th century in crystal and she wanted to save her mother.
Chibiusa takes Mamoru, Usagi, and Minako to the future through the time door. Sailor Pluto nearly kills them off, but Chibiusa stops her and reveals the two are actually really close. Sailor Pluto lets them through and Chibiusa shows the trio what has become of Crystal Tokyo. Emeraude of the Black Moon chases them further into the city. That's when illusions of the King shows up, explaining how the Black Moon showed up and attacked Crystal Tokyo. To protect it, Serenity encased herself in crystal, as well as the city. Only the silver crystal can save the city. The trio promise to protect Chibiusa and the four return back to their time to stop the Black Moon's attack on the present (well, his past).
Chibiusa returns to the future by herself to visit her parents but is ambushed by Emeraude. Sailors Moon and Venus, and Tuxedo Kamen arrive to help out but Emeraude has already knocked Chibiusa out. With the past and present silver crystals so close, Sailormoon loses her power and is helpless against the Serenity-obsessed Prince Diamond. She drops her cutie moon rod as she's kidnapped, which Chibiusa snatches up and clutches.
Chibiusa unfortunately gets upset once again, drops her Time Key, and runs through the time door, getting herself lost in the mess of time-space. Without the key, she had no way of knowing where she was or how to get out, but it didn't matter. She felt horribly useless.
Wiseman approaches her in the void, drawing her towards him, preying on her fears and loneliness, turning her into a grown-up version of herself. She becomes Black Lady, the self-proclaimed queen of the Black Moon's planet, Nemesis. She attacks the now-reunited sailor senshi with intensity, and kidnaps Mamoru, turning him into a mind slave. Then she steals both the crystal of the past and future for Wiseman's own evil desire to destroy the Silver Millennium.
Seeing the two crystals so close, Pluto uses forbidden magic to stop time, sacrificing her own life. It breaks her heart, and the spell on her, to see Pluto die and she promptly begins to cry. Her tears form a crystal, which turns her into Sailor Chibi Moon and helps defeat the Wiseman (aka Death Phantom).
Back in the present, Chibiusa hands Usagi her new rod, a gift from Queen Serenity. She leaves, but shortly thereafter (which is quite possibly a while for her as she's visibly taller), Chibiusa arrives the same way as she had the first time, landing on Usagi's head. Serenity sent her back for senshi training.
Her return is pretty enjoyable at first. Mamoru takes her and her friends to the amusement park, but she loses her hat across the fence on the Infinity school campus and goes to retrieve it. She finds it as well as a girl coughing on the ground. The girl essentially pushes Chibiusa away. However, Chibiusa, as Chibi Moon with Sailormoon, rescues the girl from the creature. The girl, Hotaru, heals Chibiusa's wounds then leaves.
Chibiusa later returns to visit Hotaru and return the handkerchief that she'd tied around Chibi Moon's arm. As she leaves the Tomoe residence, Haruka and Michiru give her a lift in a helicopter.
While fighting daimon outside of a concert, Uranus and Neptune show up. Chibiusa recognizes the talisman Neptune's holding as the mirror Michiru had in the helicopter. She convinces the senshi that they're friends.
During art class, Chibiusa makes a copy of the holy chalice her mom uses to keep her youth and gives her power in her art class out of clay. She wants to give it to Hotaru (since her teacher tells her to give it to someone important) but Hotaru kindly refuses, saying that Chibiusa should keep it herself after how much work she did on it.
Later during a battle, Chibi Moon wants to help Sailormoon fight, so she asks for a weapon. Luna-P falls from the sky, turning into the Pink Sugar Stick, and soon thereafter, Pluto appears, along with Uranus and Neptune. They explain that the bringer of death may be coming and Hotaru may be connected with that. Her first job as a senshi is to learn more about the Death Busters and how they're connected with Hotaru's father.
After an encounter with Hotaru, where she explains that she's cybernetic after a terrible accident, she joins up with Usagi to stop a sudden quarrel that's broken out between the senshi, thanks to one of the Death Busters. She can't stand to see them all fight and begs everyone to stop. It's then that her wish and Usagi and Mamoru's strength that the holy chalice Chibiusa made began to glow. The fighting stops when Sailormoon begins to speak powerfully. The outer senshi's talismans glow and with their power, Sailormoon becomes Super Sailormoon, as Chibiusa's mother said she would.
Unfortunately, just as Super Sailormoon defeats two of the Death Busters, Sailor Saturn, the bringer of destruction, appears. It turns out the outer senshi's talismans, when brought together, call Sailor Saturn to destroy the the world to protect it from the outside attackers. Unfortunately, this isn't supposed to happen, since the future is still there. Chibiusa was proof of that. Haruka tells the senshi they have to kill Saturn to stop her awakening. Chibiusa vows to save Hotaru, that killing her is not the answer.
As Chibi Moon finds Hotaru, Mistress 9 awakens within Hotaru, stealing Chibiusa's broach. The power of the attack nearly kills Chibiusa. Her soul was stolen. Turns out her soul was connected with the silver crystal in her broach.
While her soul is about, she finds Hotaru's soul as well. Mistress 9 tries to draw power from Chibiusa's silver crystal but with Hotaru, Chibiusa stops her. While the fight between the senshi and Mistress 9 continues on, Hotaru attempts to stop Mistress 9. When Mistress 9 attempts to steal the inner senshi's souls, Hotaru intercepts. Spirit Hotaru soon flees, taking the souls with her and returning them, including Chibiusa's and her silver crystal. Chibiusa awakens and thanks Hotaru, happy to see she was right about Hotaru's feelings and true intentions.
With renewed energy, Chibiusa and Mamoru return to the fight. Together with Sailormoon, Chibiusa and Usagi both transform into their super versions. Chibiusa, along with the senshi, run out of power and fall, leaving Usagi to fight alone. She uses her power and falls from the sky. Sailor Saturn awakens and begins her destruction.
Suddenly in the darkness, Sailormoon appears, halting the destruction. Sailor Saturn tells Sailormoon that she's the symbol of rebirth, the opposite of Saturn herself, then asks Pluto to seal her away within the time void. Pluto does so and Saturn disappears. With Sailormoon's power, the city is revived. Hotaru is also reborn. The outer senshi finds her and decides to raise her. But before they leave, Michiru hands Chibiusa her mirror talisman as a promise they'll meet again. Then the outer senshi departs and mysteriously disappears.
Chibiusa later writes a letter to her mother that she's become a strong soldier and is planning to return home. She congratulates everyone on getting into high school (for Mamoru, getting into pre-med), then goes to the park with Mamoru and Usagi. She begs for a piggy back ride from Mamoru and gets her way. They arrive to find that a solar eclipse watching is taking place. So they pause to watch the eclipse behind the screens. During the eclipse a bell rings and Usagi and Chibiusa are encountered by a pegasus asking the beautiful maiden for her help. Of course, each decides she's the maiden and a squabble ensues. Mamoru saw it two, which gets the two to stop. As they watch the solar eclipse, a ship seems to appear within it, but only they (the senshi too) saw it.
Nearby they find that a circus festival had mysteriously and suddenly set up. No one really seems fazed by this so they simply go to enjoy the festivities. The two girls find kaleidoscopes and beg Mamoru to buy them for them, which, of course he does (he's such a good daddy). The park is so busy, Mamoru suggests that she go home to the 30th century tomorrow morning. That's when the request to stay the night comes in. Of course, he caves and lets the two stay the night.
Mamoru tells Chibiusa she should get up and travel home at 5am, which of course Usagi complains about getting up so early. This spawns a debate on which has it easier, Chibiusa as the kid or Usagi as the adult. Both believe the other has it easier and want to be the opposite age. That night, Pegasus, introducing himself as Elios, arrives in Chibiusa's dreams, offering her a ride on his back. She sees the night sky and the shadow over Juuban shopping district and he tells her he needs her to find the golden crystal and save Elysion. As they land, he gives her a bell, telling her to call on him when she needs help in exchange for her help. She awakes from the dream after falling on her head, the bell clinking out from the sheets.
Chibiusa sneaks out to go home by herself, leaving Mamoru and Usagi a note. Doubt starts to come over her, wondering if she really was ready to return home. Would her mother be proud of her training? Is she really a strong senshi? She tries to use the time key to go home, only to have it not work at all. Usagi and Mamoru soon appear, worried. Elios shows up with a brief call for help once again.
Their panic is interrupted by a cry for help from Juuban. A tiger (really Tigers Eye of the Dead Moon) has escaped from the circus. Usagi and Chibiusa attempt to transform, only to find their power from the last battle was gone. Inside both of them, a power surfaces, and they're able to transform into the new versions of their Super Sailor forms. But they have no weapons. Go figure. So Chibiusa calls on Elios for help and he turns their kaleidoscopes into weapons with their own wills and with their power, they stop Tigers Eye. But Mamoru keels over. During this, the mysterious Amazoness Quartet peek into their dreams and find that Chibiusa doesn't want to grow up yet (as her training's not done), and Usagi feels she needs to be more of an adult. When they de-transform, they find they've switched ages.
During the age swap, Elios visits her, certain that Chibiusa is the maiden he's looking for, the maiden with the beautiful dreams and the power of the moon. But she's even more uncertain now that she is. She sits alone later in the park, contemplating the entire situation.
Ami is later attacked by the Dead Moon, and Chibiusa and Usagi come to help, transforming into sailor senshi and regaining their original forms. She starts feeling more inferior to Sailormoon as she sees her so easily fend off Fish Eye, and summons Elios, telling him that the maiden he's looking for is, in fact, Usagi, not her, and she runs off crying. She stops in the park, crying, crushed, in the pouring down rain. Elios visits her and tells her not to cry, giving her a kiss and transforming into his true form during it. He tells her that Sailormoon is powerful because of Chibiusa's help.
The next day she seems to have perked up. After Rei regains her senshi power, Chibiusa thinks of who to talk to about this huge crush she's developing on Elios. She believes the best person to talk to is Makoto, who immediately knows what's going on. They chat and make dinner before Chibiusa leaves and returns to Mamoru's place where she meets up with Usagi. Mamoru's under attack and Elios is trying to protect him. Chibiusa and Usagi, and later Makoto, rush to his aid. This is when they learn of the demise of Elysion, the kingdom inside the Earth that Mamoru and Elios are connected to. Elios tasks the senshi to find the Golden Crystal and break the spell the Dead Moon has on Elysion, thusly saving Elios and Mamoru in the process.
After the entire senshi regains their power, Chibiusa hears Michiru calling out to her. She uses the mirror to get to Michiru, taking Usagi with her. They find the city taken over by nightmares. They join up with the outer senshi, this time including Saturn. The Inner senshi soon join them to find Usagi and Mamoru affected by the curse, quickly shrinking out of existence. Chibiusa gets upset and vows to help them. Sailor Saturn follows into the circus tent to fight the Dead Moon. The two try to awaken the good within the Amazoness Quartet. They begin to break the hold on them but they are trapped into gems and Saturn and Chibi Moon are trapped in mirrors.
Sailormoon soon finds the trapped friends and frees them with her Kaleidoscope. Upon Nehelenia's supposed defeat, the world she created begins to crumble. As they flee, Saturn collects the gems the Quartet is trapped inside. The senshi and Mamoru descend to Elysion to help Elios and find the place in ruin. Nehelenia arrives to bring destruction. Of course her plans don't go as she wanted. The senshi, along with Mamoru the holder of the golden crystal, join together with the newly formed Eternal Sailormoon to defeat Nehelenia.
Elios regains his human form, but he doesn't wake up. Chibiusa tries to wake him and cries, her tears bringing back his power and reviving him. Elios hands Mamoru his scepter with the golden crystal on it and Mamoru and Usagi turn into Endymion and Serenity. The princess-senshi appears and the casting away the darkness into the light seems like a coronation ceremony.
Usagi uses her power on the gems the Quartet were sealed in, bringing them back. They reveal that they're really Chibiusa's sailor guardians, much as the inner senshi is to Usagi. They disappear, awaiting Chibiusa's return as their leader.
Chibiusa parts ways with Elios, hoping to see him again and that he may one day become her prince.
ABILITIES:
Chibiusa has the power of the successor of the Silver Millennium in the form of the Silver Crystal. The crystal formed from her tears when Pluto sacrificed her life. This crystal gives her the ability to transform into Sailor Chibi Moon (now Super Sailor Chibi Moon). As Chibi Moon, she fights the darkness that threatens the peace of the earth and the future. Her element is love. Her power varies from season to season, but predominately involves hearts or light.
As Chibiusa, she is an extremely skilled artist. She began to keep picture diaries when she first started school in the present. Four of her picture diaries are presented in the manga (I've included the first day in school in the history as that one is specifically stated when it takes place). She is shown to have very good artistic skills, being able to draw people as they really look like. She also has very good sculpting abilities, being able to sculpt the holy chalice quite intricately within an art class or two.
Chibiusa also has Luna-P. While the toy isn't really part of her, she has the ability to change it into whatever she desires, such as hypnotizing umbrellas, by bouncing the toy and saying “Abra Kadabra Pon!”. It's never really stated if the ability is purely hers or something Pluto put into the toy.
