Have you ever liked the idea of doing something, but then when you tried it, you discovered you didn't actually like doing it?

This was my predicament until today. You see, for weeks I have been consumed by a singular obsession: to become a coffeehouse aficionado. For the first time in my life I had the time and money to do so, and I mean, isn't ( Read more... )

This is a rather familiar predicament to me; I have an entire list of "things I like in theory, but not in practice". E.g., pesto, Bjork, licorice, most beaches, compact fluorescent light bulbs, Linux...

I also am a no-coffee person, despite my tendency to live in coffeeshops. When you get tired of hot chai latte, try it iced (mmm). The local coffeshop in Milledgeville made several non-coffee drinks I loved, particularly one that consisted of a shot of pomegranate/berry syrup in a glass of Pellegrino lemonade (yes, I know, sounds incredibly snooty, but it was really tasty). Miss coffeeshops...

Really? I didn't know that was true (the first part, that is). I will certainly try the iced chai latte, seeing as summer is in full swing here already. Also, holy crap, it's June?!

Tell me more about these non-coffee concoctions of yours...

I, too, do not mix with coffee. I must try this Chai Tea Latte!

However, I shall steadfastly abstain from the postmodernity. Oh, that greatest of sins!

(Except in architecture, where the great redeeming value of postmodernity is that it's so much better than modernity.)

I think "At least it's not modernism" would be a great motto for postmodernism in general.

Oh, and as far as coffee drinks for non-coffee drinkers go... I suggest chocolate espresso frappes, if you can find them. All the jolt of espresso but it tastes like really good dark chocolate, in a milkshake form. It's kind of epic.

Well, since I managed to make my true literary tastes exceptionally unclear in that post, I should clarify that (at least at the moment) I am not much for postmodern literature either, Thomas Pynchon-wise or otherwise-wise. In fact I am not sure I've read any that would qualify!

Word. I don't like coffee either. But as long as they have hot chocolate on the menu, I'm happy.

Word. The thing with hot chocolate, though, is that once you've had Spanish chocolate you can never go back. The Spanish style drink is so thick you can practically put a spoon on top and it won't sink. Anything else pales by comparison. I suppose it wouldn't be bad if one liked cocoa flavored milk, but that's not my thing either.

I, too, do not like coffee. The horrible part is that I also don't really like most teas. I kinda fail at being a hip urban twentysomething. :-p

Malinalda! I didn't know you were reading :) Well, hey, if you don't like teas either, how about lassis and yogurt shakes? Those are also divine, and sometimes they come in cool curved glasses too.
