Personality:
Yuzu would describe herself as "normal." She likes normal things - shopping, indie music, sweets - has normal problems - her parent's divorce and subsequent clashes with her mother - and generally leads an ordinary life as an urban Japanese teenager.
That was all before demons invaded Tokyo, trapping her and her two best friends inside the Yamanote line without electricity or shelter, and leaving them with only a few days to live. The week of fighting to survive placed immense physical and mental strain on her, but she was able to hold on and come out stronger.
Yuzu draws most of her strength from the people around her. The main character is one of her childhood friends and is someone who she has admitted was "always there for her." Now that they are teenagers, Yuzu has developed a bit of a crush, to the point where she gets jealous when other girls get too close to him. Her relationship with her other close friend, Atsuro, is more of a roller coaster. They bicker and poke at each other at every chance they get (for instance, he nicknames her "Yoohoo," and calls her it enough that some teachers in their school think that is her actual namee.) Still, she trusts and depends on him as well, and it is because of their friendship and ability to work together that the three are able to defy their destiny of death and work towards finding a way to end the ordeal.
In most endings and as strongly indicated by the story, Yuzu will follow her friends even if it means putting herself in danger. She’s afraid, and she doesn’t want to die, but she’s a good person and wants to set the world right and back to peace. However, as important as friendship is to her, her belief in right and wrong is most important. As an example, she initially refuses to follow the main character if he decides to become the King of Bel, unwilling to participate in the plan of becoming a demon overlord to fight God. (She says she’s never been religious, but it’s hard not to start believing after seeing angels and demons attacking each other in your city.) However, once she sees the main character sticking to his resolve of helping the people of the Lockdown and not harming them, and the way the angels are treating the people, she returns to help her friends and is instrumental in convincing the rest of the city to join with them as well.
At the end of Naoya's good route, Yuzu puts aside her doubts and stands with the hero and Atsuro to battle Metatron. Once the angels retreat and remove their influence from humanity, she returns to what seems to be a somewhat normal life - albeit waiting for her friend the Overlord's promised return.
Strengths
Yuzu is outgoing and has no trouble stating her opinions. She's not a genius, but is able to grasp most concepts quickly and reason solutions (when it doesn’t involve Atsuro's technogeek mode, anyway.) When she puts her mind to something, she’s very strong willed, and exhibits a desire to protect others and help her friends. She can be very brave, as shown in her willingness to face demons despite her fears about them.
Although she often would rather run from tough decisions and danger, when it comes down to it, she will always choose to help her friends as long as it doesn't compromise her morality. For example, during Naoya's 8th day, if the main character chooses to avoid harming humans and instead tries to convince them of the manipulation of the angels, she eventually resolves to go back to him and stands up to the people of the city to defend his actions. Her impassioned speech is able to get through to the people and rally them to the Overlord's cause. Conversely, if the main character instead chooses to kill angels and humans alike, she will stand and fight against the Overlord, unwilling to compromise her beliefs even for her friend - and feeling it's her duty as a friend to put an end to the terror he is spreading.
Her greatest strengths come from being together with her friends and the love she holds for them. With their encouragement, and for their sake, she can put her fears aside and move forward.
Physically, Yuzu fights using an altered COMP, a handheld computing/gaming system that greatly resembles a Nintendo DS or 3DS. This allows her to use offensive and defensive abilities 'cracked' from demons as well as providing an amount of protection from demon attacks. The COMP also allows her to summon demons via its connection with the demon summoning server. The latter function should be initially impossible in Luceti.
Weaknesses
Yuzu has a temper which flares up quickly, usually when goaded into a fight or when teased. She has a competitive streak that can override her common sense. She insults and sometimes hits Atsuro people when angry, making up nicknames (“Otakuro, Atsuwrong, Jerktsuro”) or just calling them stupid or morons. She’s still a kid, and while she’s somewhat aware of this and admits it, it doesn’t mean she’s any less childish at times. She isn't comfortable around danger; she's scared of demons and fighting and just wants to get home and away from the freakishness that has become her reality.
She puts on a brave front as much as she can, but several scenes indicate by he end of the week, she is very near the breaking point. Deep down, she would like to just run away and leave the lockdown behind, even after learning what might happen if they try. (If she manages to convince the main character of this, it leads to the worst ending of the game, where they escape the lockdown but demons are released into the world and the entire world is no better than what they left.) She admits that running is her usual method of solving problems, avoiding anything she doesn’t feel she can handle.
Although Atsuro can attest that Yuzu has a pretty strong punch, her physical strength isn't her strong point. She can only fight using a COMP, as it provides both protection and attack ability, and without it she’s an average human girl. However, she’s a girl who has the support of great friends, and with them all together they can accomplish things that defy fate.
