feelin' a bit better... just a little

Today was the end of classes, and I got all of my homework finished.  Now I just have two more exams to study for, but I'm not worried.  I put in an application for a small loan, just in case, but it turns out my mom didn't forget the papers after all and they're on their way. I mean marriage means nothing.

Practically everyone I know who's been married has gotten a divorce at this point. So what does it really mean, to be married?

Doesn't seem like much.

Most marriages collapse because of a combination of factors, but the major two problems cited in most reasons for divorce are money and communication. Money, as in always fighting about it or not having enough of it. Communication, as in not nearly enough of it. It's tougher than people think for two people to spend their lives together, and that takes work and not assuming the other person thinks exactly like the first does. And once you fall into a rut of assuming what the other person's thinking, there isn't much that'll get you out of that, barring some huge crisis, like a fight.

Really, taking another person for granted seems the fastest path to losing that person.

Yeah, that's basically how my mom and dad's marriage ended (well.. that and the cheating...) but that's why this was so shocking with my brother. They talk about everything. All the time. And then, apparently on thanksgiving, my mom says, they just up and declare they're getting a divorce, out of nowhere.

So even that's not enough.

True. Sometimes two people realize they're no longer the same people they were when they got married, and that the people they've become are no longer compatible.
