This is how my vacation is going

So it's been an interesting last couple of days. I've pretty much spent the entire time working, because I feel better when I'm too busy to think about anything. (I've prepped and painted the hallway in my Mom's house. It looks REALLY good.) It's not so bad, except this vacation was SUPPOSED to be fun, and well, various things happened before

Pick up a copy of Writer's Market, and follow the instructions to the LETTER. Don't attach anything gimmicky or attention-getting; just follow the instructions on it. Also, don't submit a query letter or any chapters until the draft is where you feel comfortable having other people reading it.

There's some excellent advice on Making Light, especially Slushkiller.
