Oh, it will be. Intimidating, and interesting, at the same time! It's so unlike anything I've ever actively studied before. The thing about acting is that you can watch people acting until your eyes fall out, but you have to really *do* it to understand it (at least that's my theory)
Your poems are beautiful.. I always look for them on my Friends list.
cool! i am also taking an acting course this fall-- "Viewpoints"-- the Anne Bogard method taught by one of her master students. I am really excited to learn a new techinique. I am also taking an independent study based upon an undergrad class-- "Performance as Cultural Criticism"-- which involves studying performance theory, the culture of performance, and then create and perform my own performance piece--- scary! I have to find another class... still trying to work something in....
The Performance as Cultural Criticism class sounds amazing. Will you get to perform in a public setting? I am completely unfamiliar with any methods of acting.. I've just gotten a book from the library which I hope might give me an overview (FROM ACTING TO PERFORMANCE by Philip Auslander)
Have you ever taken a "body" class, like I'm about to take? All of my work leading up to this, in fine arts, luthierie, writing and so on, has always been done in isolation. It's going to be very strange being in contact (literally!) with people all the time in this discipline. But it's exciting.. I'm wondering how it will change my sculpture work & influence the way I think about designing space on stage.
I'm comforted, too, knowing most of the grad students in theatre did not have Theatre as undergrad majors.. they're coming from English, Math, Psychology and so on.
