why is it that a cat who mostly seems to ignore you will come and sit right on the book you're reading?

lately, my brain just wants to learnlearnlearn. one question leads to 10 books which lead to 10 more. and fortunately, most are available at the library. good things will come from this!!!

and boston is springing into action with tons of good ( Read more... )

I am curious to know what you have been dedicating your brain power to.
Paul and I now have a date in MA and we're seeing if we can end up in Boston too. I'll keep you informed!

lots of books on textile history, archeology with female perspective added...and it's all so rich. one book causes me to ask questions that need to be answered by 10 others.

i do have a similar fever in music, always wanting to know more and different possibilities and sources. but with music, i feel i can never know enough in my lifetime for it to be able to be as satisfying as writing about these other things that interest me. i can be personally satisfied, but i will never be able to know enough to even be able to play sophisticated music with others. (sophisticated in the sense of nuanced, laughing at all the little quoted phrases/references.) i can enjoy those things when i listen to other musicians, and that's a joy.

re: boston and travels - great. hope we can get to the ma gig. hope it's not june 6 or 7. we have to go to a wedding in nyc. i am sending you a note thru here about boston date.

It sounds to me like you have too many expectations for yourself and what should happen when you play music. Some of the best musicians I have played with don't know any technique or tunes but they have a feel for the music. I have played with other people who have studied for decades and know tons and it is painful, because they lack musical soul. Sophistication soschmiftication!
I guess this means we will have to play together when I'm out there :)

I'll talk to P re: the message and get back to you. Sounds interesting and hopeful.

well, i'm talking about my own personal sense of pleasure :) "a feel for music" is a good way to describe it. there's a difference between what i'm able to do/perceive now when i spend so little time at it contrasted with the times in my life when i've been able to spend 6+ hours a day playing with it. i know/notice the difference. still plenty of opportunities to have a good time!

re message: glad you're considering

It is interesting to examine the history of things.
I like textile history, too.
I read many books of "Tonbo Dama".
Tonbo-Dama is Japanese Glass Beads.
I'm interested in it lately.

the far traveler/travels of a viking woman, women in prehistory, a biography of christine de pizan. ha, i've heard enough about what men do for this lifetime - all i've ever really wanted to know more about was women's experiences :)

thanks for saying hi!
