Seeing double...seeing flames...working on

My final class, as a UC Berkeley student, was a summer-session "beginning" photo class. It was a traditional class (meaning: B&W photography/developing) full of freshies, sophmores, and three upper classmen (note: I was the only grad student). It was fun, and light-hearted (way less intense then my studio work ( Read more... )

Congrats on landing on this job!
I'm a career junction right now. I am too afraid to face what I really want to do, which can be distant from science. I think I've lost my confidence in science. Hope that I will find it back to make a fair choice before next summer.

Thanks for the congrats.

Yeah, figuring out a career path is a lot of work. It took some soul searching to get here...and I'm not still sure if this is the end of the road for me. Either way, it's a more then tolerable start. (~:

Good luck Elise, I have faith in you!

While I understand you not wanting to work for the us military, or any military for that matter, what is wrong with NASA?? And on the flip side, do you know anyone who is looking for someone who specializes in remote sensing, especially at NASA? My husband's thesis was remote sensing on Mars and he needs a job come June once his postdoc is up.

I have two major reasons for being shy of working with NASA:

1) In general, NASA is an unsteady employer who has been losing congressional funding and jobs for quite awhile.

2)JPL/NASA (where most of the remote sensing jobs are...and where I imagine your husband should be looking) has a large pot of DoD (Dept. of Defense) funding. Lockheed also works very closely with JPL (something I learned through my grandfather who worked for Skunk WorksMy work is very R&D industry related, but as I've learned that with military funding, even if international spying isn't part of your job description or research focus...that doesn't mean your work will not contribute to the effort ( ... )
