If you're often tight on money, I really don't suggest you get a cat till that problem's fixed somehow.

I'm not sure on the allergy thing. I'm fine with the cat's I live with, but I have a slight sensitivity to other people's cats. I'm not sure why, but maybe that means it's possible to adjust to the dander and such if your allergy isn't severe. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about it?

Kittens are good because they're young and a little easier to introduce to new environments and their trainable (well, as trainable as a cat will ever be). The upside with adult cats from shelters, however, is that they tend to need a little less attention in terms of cuddling and playing, plus they're probably already fixed. And trust me, you definitely want your cat to be fixed ( ... )

I agree with leradny and wohitzi, my friends spend a lot of money on their dogs because they need check ups from the vet, they need food, toys, etc.
