I had Bell's Palsy when I was 14, and was one of the youngest documented cases at the time. It was a week before we were to go to Cedar Point for the first time that I got it, so no rollercoaster fun for me! IIRC, it took about 6-8 weeks for it to clear up for me, and in the meantime, I had to compensate in the ways you have described, and cope with the fact that people thought it was HI-larious to make me laugh. :P
My dad had it a couple of years back and it did take him a few months to fully recover. Hopefully though, you have a short run with it and don't have to cope with it for that long. :)
I was also a big fan of using my microscope at that age. I had a flashback of being frustrated that I couldn't use my right eye (what I normally used) because I could not close the left one. Gah! It was frustrating. But at least I developed ocular ambidextrous-ness...heh.
I have a friend here who's husband just got it recently too.
They put him on steroids for the first two weeks which didn't help and made him feel worse. She read somewhere that B vitamins should help. She also read somewhere that supposedly "they" think it's caused by the same herpes virus as cold sores.
Her hubby is doing a bit better, good days and bad days (it's been about a month) - depression sets in a *lot* though.

Who would have thought something as stupid as the chicken pox would come back to bite me 30 years later.
My mom had it too, about 2-3 years ago. She took about 4 months to clear up. In the meantime I'm bound and determined to find something funny in this.

Anyway, here's to fast healing!

Sorry about the illness. :( I hope it clears up quickly. At least time flies by.
