5000 is including the Firestore FS-4 DV disk recorder (800?) the XL2 looks awsome to me, seems to do anything i want it too. are there better cams out there for a similar price? i dont have a clue about this stuff. i just wanna make movies and think the XL2 looks cool as shit
XL2's cameras are cool shit, but if all you want to do is shoot some video, you don't need all the bells and whistles of a high end camera. You should look into cameras that record straight to dvd or to a built on hard drive. these seem to be the new technology out there and alot of them have 3ccd chips in them for $3000 to $4000 cheaper. 3ccd chips means that you have a seperate chip that processes the colour of each primary colour instead of one chip processing all colours. It makes for a better picture basically. My friend has an XL2 and they're are simple to use for your basic point and shoot filming but the advanced controls can take some getting used to if you are unfamiliar with filming and editing. The great thing about a camera that records to DVD is that you can take out the dvd from your camera and place it in your computer and edit it right from the disc, you don't have to worry about firewire or slow transfers from USB (if available). Tapes can get expensive and DVD's are cheaper when compared to quantity, so a HDD
