So, having been here for a few weeks now, I've decided that while I'm still very interested in learning conversational Japanese, I'll never try the next step. You are fortunate to live in the information age. You realize the theory of lost information is very close to no longer existing in any real sense. Full accounts of current knowledge are being recorded on such a global scale, it would almost be impossible to extinguish any currently present knowledge.

Japanese is in danger of becoming obsolete, but never in danger of being forgotten.
