Politics - What's wrong with community organizers?

I admit that I didn't watch much of the Republican National Convention but of what I did catch, it seemed that the running theme of the convention was to insult Obama as much as possible while at the same time, trying (and failing miserably) to be just like him.

Here's Obama's typically classy response (no teleprompters needed):

That man is class personified.

But what's the go with the community organising stuff? Did the Republicans say that was a bad thing?

Apparently, there was much mocking and belittling of community organizers by many Republicans at the convention including Rudy Guilliani and Sarah Palin who said this:

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities."

They were obviously just trying to insult Obama, who used to be a community organizer, but it was really quite telling as to how they really feel about someone trying to help the little guy.
