If not the first time I tried guided visualization, one of the first
would be when Laurie, Kimb, and I, and probably Loo, were all in Linda O'B's AP English class in junior year of high school. She thought it would be fun for us to imagine walking around in our brains or something. We all liked it, and I know I made fun of it in addition to liking it, but i don't remember if any one else did. More likely i probably just made fun of how her students in other classes would have responded to it. I was an obnoxious kid, as most of you know. Years later Mrs O'B wafted into the bookstore and described showing a video that had a guided visualization of some sort, to her classes, and a parent or several parents complained that she was "hypnotizing the students." As if that's a bad thing. It was Linda's assertion that all teaching is a form of hypnosis, at least that's what she said at the time. Interesting idea.
Here's another one of those things you can think is silly and still have fun with.

This month i think about why i like the hypnosis clips and recordings so much, since i am not one of those people who thinks there's anything supernatural or exotic associated with the process(es) of hypnosis. I think one thing I really like about it is someone taking the time to talk to us, the audience,(or the inductee if it's a demonstration), in a positive, attentive, friendly way. Sounds silly I know, but how often do people in clips or in "real" life talk to you all nice? I guess plenty, but i really appreciate it when it happens. And i definitely have realized today that the times I have sought out M/V/H recordings from the library, I was not only looking for a way to distract myself from stress, but also an alternative to working with people who were just not friendly and kind. Like if they went way out of their way to cut you some slack they'd manage to be... neutral. Maybe that's why it's taken me so long to catch up on doing an entry per day for march, because when i am working with friendly people, and in touch with friendly local and faraway friends as I have been these daze, i just don't gravitate towards the M/V experience as much. Anyway since I wasn't careful, I learned some things, about the subject matter of this month's LJ theme, and about myself! Woo Hoo!
Enjoy the warmish outdoors, & HEY Let's be careful out there!
