In case you are wondering, we are surviving all the hurricanes! School was cancelled in my county for only one day because of Fay, and luckily neither our apartment nor my school suffered any flooding or wind damage. We live pretty far inland in Orange County, so we escaped the major flooding. Gustav is not headed this way, but is certainly affecting our weather by making it very blustery and rainy. I don't know what Hurricane Hannah is doing, but I think it is supposed to hit Florida at some point.
As far as moving goes, our plan totally changed. We didn't like any of the houses in Williamsburg, so we had to do some thinking about our other options. We considered staying where we are now but we just don't love it, and our complex just changed to a new management company and we don't know how that is going to work out. We ended up looking in Celebration, which is the Disney-planned company in east Osceola County. We got in touch with some real estate agents there and looked at a few places; we ended up signing a lease for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom former condo right in downtown Celebration! As soon as we saw the downtown, we knew we wanted to live there, and we're amazed that we found a place.
We really wanted a second bedroom to use as a guest room, office, for Mike to play the bass, and for me to scrapbook and do school work. We don't have that second room, but we do have a lot of space. There is a hall closet, a pantry, a large walk-in closet, and a linen closet as well. There is also a huge balcony overlooking downtown Celebration, which we both love. A third added bonus is that the main room is almost L-shaped so you can use the "nook" as a dining area. We went to Ikea last weekend to try to make some furniture choices and set a plan. We own a bedroom set, but that's pretty much it. We're planning to buy a couch, a small entertainment center, a coffee table, and an outdoor dining set very soon. Oh, and some barstools for the breakfast bar. Eventually, I'd like a new bookcase and a small dining table, too.
We are picking up keys today and our lease starts tomorrow. This lease is up September 16, so we have two weeks to clean the new place, move, and then clean the old place. Our goal for tomorrow is to move all the wedding gifts from the dining room to the new place. After that, we'll pack and move a few boxes every day and move the bed and our clothes basically last. Next weekend, we're borrowing a truck from a friend of Mike's to move our mattress and larger furniture, like our bookshelf.
My classes this year are awesome! I love all my honors groups, even though the sixth graders are definitely very young, much younger than I am used to. I have only one non-honors program class, and it's a really good group. I'm enjoying our new advisory program; I like both of the groups I am advising and I appreciate that I'm not doing much of the work until I start to pull reading groups. Cheerleading got started last week with uniform handout and our first practice. Varsity is in three stunt groups and they are all getting into elevators by themselves, which is huge for the first week. We really have to work on motions, though, because we have so many new people. They probably won't be winning any competitions this year because most of them are new, but I hope they'll learn fast and perform well at games.
I've made a list of eight items I would like for fall clothing. I'm trying to limit myself because I would like to buy a lot of things for our apartment, but I do need some new clothes. Here is the list:
- Black pants
- Patterned cardigan
- Oxford shirt
- Lightweight v-neck sweater
- Fun colored loafers/driving mocasins
- New skirt
- Casual fall dress
- Tan pants or khakis
I no longer have black pants and my current khakis were worn at Starbucks too many times. I actually also need brown pants since the dry cleaner ruined a pair of mine, but I have other brown pants and can wait. I found a cardigan and an oxford that I like in Lands' End and Ann Taylor has had some nice dreses.
