Yes, and I mostly liked it. It has one of the most horrifying moments I've encountered in literature - I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I can liken it only to the 'severed child' moment in His Dark Materials.

Um... the bit where he wakes up after an operation and starts screaming. That was the worst moment for me. It's the beginning of the end.

It's unlikely that someone would view comments not having read the book, but I'm trying not to be too spoilery anyway.
