So when i lost my house, i called my dad to tell him what was going on. he couldn't talk right then because he was with my grandmother, who had that morning just gone into the hospital

you're not selfish because you want to be with the man you love at a time of horrible stress for you. selfish is the person who called out and made nik work instead of being with you.

please insert a profound, well written, pithy statement here that has the power to make you less sad - if only for a second or two. everything i come up with sounds trite or outright stupid. but i want you to know that i care, that people care, that you are loved and somehow, some way this intense awfulness will ease. you'll never stop missing your grandmother but hopefully you'll stop feeling bad for not seeing more of her recently.
