I've been batting this back and forth in my mind anonymous March 18 2009, 04:54:40 UTC
And, while I've since changed my position on the validity of Dean's reservations (I now agree), I still can't bring myself to judge Rory too harshly.

She always wanted a big, happy family. Now, she has the chance for one. And sometimes, when you want something so, so bad, you can lose sight of what's really important to you.

Fanfiction doesn't usually cause me to switch to "philosopher" mode, so kudos to you.

I don't judge Rory TOO harshly, I don't think. I feel that she was raised to be very, unthinkingly, selfish. Both she and Lorelai would do almost anything anyone asked of them, BUT they also think nothing of imposing on other people. Waking Sookie up at midnight because they think they hear termites, staring at people to get them to leave so that they can have a table at Luke's, eating during town meetings, ect. Rory's biggest problem, I feel, is that she displays a lack of empathy for other people's feelings. She regularly ignores or is unconcerned about major things in Lane's life, anytime that Lorelai fights with one of her parents, and Rory is not involved, all she wants is for the fight to be over, she doesn't care who hurt whom. Same whenever Lorelai and Luke fight ( ... )

Ultimately, it's Lorelai's fault anonymous March 19 2009, 02:28:57 UTC
Now, I'm not saying that Rory doesn't have to be responsible for her actions, because she sure as Hell does, but the root of the problem is that Lorelai, in this regard, at least, just didn't bring Rory up properly ( ... )

Development disorders like this are often genetic, and since I've observed nothing of this kind in Richard or Emily, it's possible that it, like the GGs quirkiness, is a result of the inbreeding on Richard's side of the family.Yes! I love that idea ( ... )
