This is your cat on drugs

Lucy has been spayed.

I don't mean that she was spayed today as was the intention in taking her to the vet's. I mean that when they opened her up, the vet pulled a face and said, "WTF?" She'd already been spayed. Before she put Lucy under the knife, they double checked she was not, in fact, a neutered male. They also looked for any signs of surgery ( Read more... )

The same thing happened with my Bunbun, but with more unfortunate results.
You could probably get something out of this by telling the shelter. If not money, maybe some free cat food or other helpful things that cost money. Even though they are a shelter, and should have their money to care for the animals, they shouldn't adopt out an animal before they know for sure her sexual status. I mean, if she was at the shelter for long, she would have gone into heat or something, right?
This is very frustrating to me, and am probably overreacting to the situation because of what happened in my instance. I am very glad that she is okay, though, and hope she is up to her KITTY self soon.

She also said the title line, "This is your cat on drugs" first thing when I walked into the room.

That sucks. For both of you. There were no signs at all? My vet was about to shave Bailey before I assured her she had been spayed. We did get suckered into a feline luke vaccine I didn't want since we weren't going to let her outside anyway. I'm a bit amazed you had to pay anyway. I would call the vet and try to sucker them out of at least some free samples of flea meds or something. Sorry about your angry kitty. And my angry Pedro.

Poor drugged-up Lucy! I'm really hoping that doesn't happen to Otto, 'cause she's only about 6 months old and a spay scar ought to still be visible if she'd been fixed, but now I'm all paranoid.

That is terrible. I agree that you should complain to somebody, especially the vet. You should get a discount or something because they didn't actually go through with the surgery. As for kitty, I would be angry if my insides were poked around in too.

Well, they did go through with the surgery. The object of the surgery was just impossible to accomplish. They used extra anesthetic and time for the damn thing and they're not budging on their policy. I just got screwed over by whoever put kitty in the shelter without a full history.
