Maybe some relief

May 22, 2009 19:53

I ended up getting x-rays of my sore knees today. Now we know why they are so sore, they are bone on bone. They won't even talk about surgery at this point and I understand why, I need to lose more weight. Instead, I agreed to get this "stuff" ( not cortisone)injected directly into the joint of each knee ( Read more... )

Bone on bone. Ow. That's not good.

I'm glad the injections of -- Synvisc or a similar joint lubricant? -- will help you out for as long as several years.

I know its not Synvisc but a different sort of joint lubricant. I asked for the Synvisic stuff earlier from my doctor ( I had it back in 2004 and it lasted about three years) but he refused saying it was a waste of time since it didn't work. I disagreed but I don't think he was listening.
This last time he listened and sent me to Ortho and thus my shots today.
Actually as much as I was uncomfortable today, I am looking forward to the next injections.

I hate it when doctors do that. It happens A LOT. I think it screws up a lot of people's medical care, I'm afraid.

Well, of course, if it's a path to fairly long term relief, it's worth a few days of discomfort.

You are so right about the Catch-22. I have one more Catch-22 to add to the mix. I am a type 2 Diabetic. Best thing I can do for myself is to lose weight. But I have to take certain drugs for my diabetes. The side affect of these drugs is that they promote weight gain.

on me. Yes, I have discovered that my diabetic medication helps me put on the pounds while I struggle to lose them.

Yes, truly, if people really saw what I ate in the course of a day they'd be surprised. Most diabetics have very healthy diets.

I tellya, cortisone shots kept my father's bursitis at bay - it worked for him, and I hope it works for you; so sorry you are hurting like this - they can put a man on the moon, but..
And it's SO BLESSED HARD TO LOSE WEIGHT, INNIT? I'm workin' on it, too - Two words that just may save my life: broccoli slaw. ;)

Losing weight is a stone cold bitch. I hate it. I wish I adored veggies and could just turn my face away from most food.

Trouble is, I think I am a flavorholic. Flavors entrance me.
Then there is my issue with Dairy. I love it too much.

Broccoli slaw can be a good thing. Glad you like it so much.
