a running goal

I'm taking the day off today. Ally is at the groomer, and it's an all-day affair, so I don't have to take her to the Arb today. Because of how sore I was this past week, Saturday-Wednesday non-stop, I'm making the conscious decision to not run today. However, now I just want to think and talk about running. I'm probably going out later to try on ( Read more... )

To avoid bulk, it's endurance over strength, meaning go longer on easier runs than up hills or over rough terrain. It's the same process for weight-lifting, light weights more reps = slim down, heavy weights/few reps = bulk up.

Go long distances over flat paths and you'll slim down (like marathon runners.) Avoid climbs and stairs and other strength activities and you won't bulk. ;)

THANKS. Endurance is what I've been working towards anyway, since I'm currently so terrible at it. So it's good to hear I'm on the right track. :)

I love reading about your running because it inspires me to do the same. Right now I'm only motivating myself to run a couple of times a week and I really want that to increase! So thank you for the motivation!

You're the second person in as many days to tell me that I've motivated them. So you know what? Good for you. Running is awesome, and I hope it goes well for you.

Bustystock (which is a cute name btw) just looked like a chubby torso with tiny little legs and a big frowny face. They were just... really really big. Like Charlotte's, but on ME.

you know a cool way to get magically better at running? riding a bike! part of the fitness test for the coast guard is to run 1.5 miles in a certain amount of time. in boot camp, i baaaaarely passed. then, i started riding my bike to work everyday. just 6 miles a day, there and back. it was pretty much my only exercise, aside from working on a ship. a few months later, we had the pt test, and i magically shaved like 4 minutes off my mile and a half. magic, i tell you. and it's so easy! biking is awesome because you don't even have to think about it, it's just like, hey i'm going to work- oh shit, i can run super fast and far now whaaaaat!

i went from barely running a mile to running 5 or 6 no problem, and it's just from biking. i bike about 10 miles a day now, and i'm fully confident in my ability to pass the 1.5 mile run in 11 minutes, or go 5 miles straight without stopping, even though i only run every 3 months when i have to.

anyway, just a tip.

That sounds pretty fucking awesome. My parents drove here from NJ to see my show the other day, and my mom gave me her old bike, since she got a new one for her marathons and races. The good thing is that I have a bike. The bad thing is that it's this massive boy bike, which makes for very hard times when I have to stop at street corners. However, my mom's legs are shorter than mine, so she somehow managed it. I rode it yesterday, and today, and am SERIOUSLY FEELING THIS CRAZY BURNING from the ass down.

But pain is good. Pain means I'm doing something. Thank you for the confidence boost, and for the numbers/stats. Looks good.
