If I could surf well, I could see the attraction in not working and just following the waves up and down the coast. Unfortunately, I feel like at some point in my life, I will need to do something well. And surfing just doesn't look like one of the realistic possibilities.

How is the surfing coming along anyway? You wrote about it when you started but not much after. Do you still do it?

I do. I took a long hiatus, but I recommitted myself to the sport this season. Unfortunately getting a PhD and becoming a decent surfer are not compatible in that they both demand lots of time.
