in which i get all instrospective and shit

I still read just about every post of all of my LJ friends almost every day, but I haven't really felt like writing on Livejournal lately. Earlier today, I was pondering why that might be when it occurred to me that I may have outgrown my blog persona. Then I asked myself if you can outgrow a version of your self that isn't actually your self ( Read more... )

That makes a lot of sense. Personally, I've been outgrowing my non-persona, if you will, without knowing what to replace it with. I liked it when I could be more free in expressing feelings here. When that form of communication seemed cut off from me, I began to narrow the scope of my writing in ways that have now led me into a dead end.

For what it's worth, though, just as that assessment over-simplifies my own situation, I think that your does a bit as well. Although you've posted less and less, I've noted a marked shift in your entries over the past year-plus. That is, I think you were already developing a new persona, to an extent.

1. LJ used to be a stew where I could toss out random scraps of writing, but I feel as if I'm getting to an age where I should be writing with more direction.

2. That was a long way of saying that you are right. My priorities as a writer and a person are changing.

3. There's something icky about LJ, but for some reason it seems as if we both value the venue.

For me, LJ functions as an online version of conversations I might have with the same friends/acquaintances in real life, and less often as a record of particularly memorable life events. Personally, I don't envision it as a alternate mode of publication, especially since my posts are all friends-locked. I could just as easily be IMing or writing an email. In sum, I'm fairly certain I embody everything you hate about LJ!

Eh, I don't hate it...or anyone's use of it. I just sometimes wonder why I keep writing in it.
