The Return of Martin Guerre

I keep forgetting how sharp lessons of history can be.  The story, The Return of Martin Guerre, is one of those more finely honed points.  My heart despaired at the end.  Move over Romeo and Juliet.... this is a book worth reading!

I never read the book but I did watch the French-made movie with Gerard Depardu (sp?) when taking university French. I loved it so much, I rented it that weekend and watched it again. It did make me question the potential moral dilemma of always being truthful ..

Having never read the book, I'd have to say that, on the face of it, my answer to your question would be no. Relying on your feelings, rather than on the truth, no matter how inconvenient that truth may be, leads one down a path best left untrod, imo. Of course, your mileage may vary. ;)
