nisakomi. Sailor Moon!AU Happy Birthday Fetus!!
Sehun dreams of black blazers and chestnut brown hair under the moonlight. It’s a reoccurring theme he keeps revisiting-moons, kingdoms, and an incredibly sad smile as someone holds his hand in a rose garden. He wakes up when their homeroom teacher throws a chalkboard eraser at him. It misses Sehun’s head and lands on the nerd at the next desk. When Sehun blinks the sleep out of his eyes, he finds Kyungsoo staring at him from across the room, scandalized behind his textbook.
“It’s not that hard to pay attention,” Kyungsoo hisses on their way home, a pile of books in his arms.
Sehun shakes bangs out of his face. “It is! Everything she says enters through one ear and leaves through the other. The only subject I’m good at is PE, and… I guess that’s useful.”
Chanyeol greets them at the school gate, already tugging at the collar of his uniform as he waves. They head towards the arcade, Sehun day dreaming about dinner while Chanyeol tells Kyungsoo to stop studying so much. It’s a humdrum repetition, colored only by a fantastic sort of excitement from time to time-the one that brought them all together in this hot mess.
Sehun suddenly remembers the onigiri he saved from lunch. He stops walking momentarily, pulling off his backpack to dig through it. Sehun manages to rezip his bag in time to hear Kyungsoo shout “Danger!” before he narrowly avoids death. He looks up and finds a row of scissors lining the spot he used to be.
An impishly looking woman with scissors for arms is waiting for them at the end of the sidewalk.
Sehun jumps when she sends more objects towards them, effectively cutting the branches on the tree behind Sehun. “Why now?” He whines, running around as Kyungsoo and Chanyeol holler at him.
Kyungsoo sends a beam of bubbles at the monster, but it quickly avoids Kyungsoo’s attack, descending upon Sehun. He buys some time when Chanyeol’s thunder makes the monster step back, Sehun running to grab his backpack from the spot he had dropped it. Sehun nearly trips on his way, digging through his backpack for that god damn brooch. Suho always told him to wear it on his uniform, but how was Sehun supposed to accessorize with-
Sehun screams when the monster suddenly appears in front of him. He jumps back, landing on his butt. The monster takes a step towards him. That’s it, Sehun thinks. He’s going to die before he ever gets to level 50 on that Sailor V game at the arcade.
Sehun is about the cry when a flaming arrow pierces the side of the monster. He spins around to find Jongin standing on top of a tree branch. Fucking show off.
“What are you waiting for?” Jongin yells, his flaming bow still pointed towards the howling monster. “Transform!”
Sehun grabs his brooch and points it towards the sky. “Moon Prism Power, Make up!”
“You’re a fucking idiot,” Jongin says when the monster turns into a pile of stardust on the road. He huffs when Sehun makes a face at him.
“Come on, Mars.” Chanyeol grins, looping an arm around Sehun. “You know Sehun’s slow on the uptake.” He laughs when Sehun tries to complain, and they stay like that all the way to the arcade, where Kyungsoo tries to win that stuffed cat toy at the lottery game using the power of statistics.
Zitao is working at the desk today, laughing with his friend Lu Han. Jongin immediately shoots forward, excitement on his face as he begins chatting. Lu Han simply looks confused at Jongin’s advances. He does, however, grin when he spots Sehun nibbling on his onigiri near the racing game.
“You know you suck at that game!” Lu Han calls when Sehun drops a coin into the slot.
Sehun flips him the bird before hitting the accelerator, holding the onigiri in his mouth for safe keepings. He crashes horrifically on the last lap and ends in last place. Sehun is about to start a new game when he finds Lu Han leaning casually against the game booth next to him.
“Is it possible that you could have gotten even worse at this?” Lu Han asks, a smile small on his face. That’s what bothers Sehun the most about Lu Han, really-his penchant for looking pleasant while insulting Sehun. Whenever Sehun tries to complain to his friends, Chanyeol just blinks at him, insisting that Lu Han always looks so nice.
“You’re the worst,” Sehun mumbles, starting the new game. Thankfully, Lu Han gets dragged away by Jongin a few seconds later.
Sehun is running towards the edge of the garden, but his companion suddenly halts in his steps. “Go,” he says.
“I’m not leaving without you,” Sehun tries to say, but then-
Sehun nearly cries when the exam rankings come out three days later. He finds his name at the very bottom of the list and feels the need to consume a whole carton of ice cream. Kyungsoo’s name, however, is at the very top - number one again this semester. Even Chanyeol manages to raise his score five whole people up from Sehun’s place-that is, last place in the entire class.
“I don’t understand how you can be so stupid,” Jongin says after school, when they’re all sitting by the river bank.
“Be nice to Sehuna!” Chanyeol insists, still celebrating his minor victory.
“This means I have to get extra tutoring,” Sehun mumbles, picking at a blade of grass near him. “Suho will just complain when I tell him. Probably something about how I’ll have even less time to find the Moon Prince, blah blah, etcetera etcetera.”
“Where did you learn such fancy words?” Kyungsoo wants to know, playing with the minicomputer Suho had given him. “If you want, I can always tutor you?”
“You’re the best, Mercury!” Sehun decides, throwing himself at Kyungsoo, who yelps and tries to push Sehun off with his biology textbook. Sehun cries foul when Jongin says that will be a waste of Kyungsoo’s brain cells, the two of them resuming their normal bickering when Chanyeol suddenly splashes a handful of water at them. Jongin yells and chases Chanyeol into the river. Sehun and Kyungsoo soon follow.
Sehun is running towards the edge of the garden, but his companion suddenly halts in his steps. “Go,” he says.
“I’m not leaving without you,” Sehun replies.
“You have to. It’s not safe here anymore.”
Sehun wants to cry. “I don’t want to be apart from you.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I”-
Kyungsoo, the bookworm that he is, turns out to have a lot on his plate already. He does, however, make room for Sehun in his schedule a day later. It’s near dinner time when Kyungsoo finally leaves his club meeting. He finds Sehun by the school gate, and they walk slowly towards Sehun’s house in the setting sun.
They only get two blocks away from the school when another monster jumps out, throwing a stack of dangerously sharp pencils at Kyungsoo’s head. This is the problem with these monsters, Sehun thinks as he transforms. This one is particularly fast, zooming around them so Sehun can’t get a good shot with his tiara.
Kyungsoo makes the mistake of using his spray attack, covering the entire area in a thick fog. For someone so smart, Sehun thinks, Mercury really sucks in battle. He’s surveying the area when a bundle of pencils land dangerously closely to his feet, and Sehun jumps when the monster reappears. He tries to picks himself up from a rather ungraceful fall, but his glove is caught by a few pencils and snagged on the cement. “God damn pencils made of dark magic,” Sehun mutters, tugging at them.
The pencils don’t budge, and Sehun looks up with wide eyes at the monster in front of him. He grabs his tiara, but it’s effectively knocked out of his hands. “Ouch,” Sehun hisses, nursing his hand.
Sehun closes his eyes when the monster moves to strike a blow, but suddenly he recognizes a distinctly familiar fragrance. When he looks up, Sehun finds the monster howling in pain from where the lone rose had hit his eye.
“Tuxedo mask!” Sehun cries, scanning the area. Kyungsoo’s fog dies just in time for Sehun to spot the man in the black tux standing on top of a lamp post. Damn this man and his fondness for tall places.
“Attack now, Sailor Moon!” Tuxedo Mask shouts, and Sehun grabs his tiara to yell “Moon Tiara Action!”
Tuxedo Mask is gone by the time Kyungsoo dashes to his side. “Are you okay?” Kyungsoo ask.
“Yeah.” Sehun rubs his arm numbly. His eyes flicker to the spot Tuxedo Mask had been, standing under the moonlight, glad in black with that mask covering his face. Sehun has met him so many times in his dreams that he can no longer identify reality. “I don’t feel like studying anymore,” he says.
Kyungsoo just makes a face at him. “You never feel like studying.”
“I don’t want to,” Sehun decides, grabbing at anything he can. A sword. A cape. “I’m not leaving without you. Even if everyone else stays with me, I can’t leave you.”
Hands cradle Sehun’s chin gently. “I’ll find my way to you again, don’t worry.”
“Promise?” Sehun asks.
Lu Han just smiles.
Sehun knocks Suho off his bed when he sits up, bangs flattened against his forehead as he takes a deep breath. The moon makes a bar of light at the edge of his room, and Sehun notes that he probably forgot to close his curtains again before bed.
“What’s wrong with you?” Suho asks, jumping back on the bed and pointing an accusatory paw at Sehun.
“I had a dream.” Sehun suddenly remembers.
What. The. Fuck, he thinks
