Of House Elf and Horcrux

Yesterday I was idly allowing Stephen Fry to read me to sleep, like so often he does on quiet afternoons. (Yes, I'm in my mid-twenties and I nap in the afternoons. STFU.) Anyway, rather unusually I was listening to the Chamber of Secrets, and I stumbled across Dobby's speech when he comes to visit Harry at Privet Drive ( Read more... )

What I found interesting about Dobby was how seemingly easy it was for
him to best Lucius once he was free. Obviously house elves have quite a bit of untapped power. Perhaps we shall see a house elf revolution in the final book, fighting on Harry's side of course. Maybe thats what S.P.E.W. was leading up to.

Well, and before he was free as well. He did pretty much what he wanted to before his freedom.

It'll be really sloppy work on JKR's half if she doesn't use all this build-up on the House Elves in the last book...

It could be my bias, but I never doubted Lucius knew what the diary was, but he simply didn't care all that much what would happen to Voldemort's soul. He wasn't exactly whooping with joy at Voldie's return at the end of GoF, was he? And come to think of it, Voldemort himself indicated the DEs must know about the horcruxes - he said: "...but how could they have believed I would not rise again? They, who knew the steps I took, long ago, to guard myself against mortal death?" So yeah, Dumbledore had to be wrong about Lucius's ignorance.

Oh, my! You're absolutely right. Interesting. And funny that Harry had a fan who knew, all along :p

ZOMG! That part sort of slipped by me at the time because I didn't understand it. But now! Ah!

That is interesting. I'm pretty sure Kreacher will have some useful info about Regulus, but the idea that Lucius (and Dobby) might already know about anther of the Horcruxes is really exciting. It would explain why Lucius was so pissed off about losing his servant to Harry - there was a lot more at stake than just not getting his laundry done anymore! House Elves do seem to have a few useful hidden powers, and they know all their masters' dirty secrets, too. Hmm.
