Some very good organisations support that case, it seems. That's good to see, because it's damned important! Especially in the UK with the problematic sex laws that are already in place.
I was so surprised to see this. The Mrs. and I were watching this film the other night, Preaching to the Perverted, and it's complete crack (albeit with some very hot actresses ;)). The plot is that the conservatives want to ban BDSM, because when "skin is broken, the law is broken." And it's supposed to be utterly silly.
That's why it's quite surreal to see something even sillier than that actually go before congress in RL :/
Oh, I have to see that film, it's been on my list for a while. But the thing is, I'm pretty sure that BDSM still is illegal in the UK, as per the Spanner case. The film may actually be a comment to that, in which case I would have some respect there.
But yeah, very surreal! *Sigh* Things look worse and worse these days...!
Hmmm... I don't think BDSM is illegal as such - as I understood the Spanner case, it was based on the fact that you cannot legally consent to being brought to harm. This is a law that I recognise from home as well, used to ensure that people aren't first tortured until they sign a form consenting to have their thumbs cut off, and then their thumbs are cut off :p Because obviously, anyone worth their salt in (non-con) torturing wouldn't hesitate to torture people until they signed a document agreeing to be tortured :p And, well, I think that this law should come before the right to practice BDSM. There are, after all, more people that would rather not be tortured than there are those who would be!
The rest is just common sense - a thing that the British crown seems to be sadly lacking!
But quick Googling confirms that the film has indeed some connection to operation Spanner. But trust me, it's quite a silly film nevertheless :)
But check it out, nevertheless - Guinevere Turner is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous in it :)
This kind of idiot lawmaking is depressingly catching! You'd thing the Home Office could tell the difference between fantasy and reality - it doesn't seem to give them (or most government departments) a problem when the issue is money.
