Sprint coverage

Nov 08, 2013 10:50

It's been awhile since this question was asked, so I'm essentially requesting an update.

Anyone have Sprint for their mobile phone in the city? It used to be fairly awful coverage. Has it improved any?

For what it's worth, I have AT&T now and no complaints re: coverage. I just have reasons to jump that ship and am shopping around.

Thanks in

wifi, services

I do not have Sprint. I've always had Verizon (in its varying incarnations and flavors) over many phone models, including analog, trimode, Blackberry, and iPhone. It has always serviced me with "bars" far better than my friends' phones using either ATT or Sprint. (Except for my LG phone - it didn't get reception anywhere, but that was the phone not the service).

I don't know if that was any help...just sharing my experience.

Thanks for the input, though I'm really very specifically asking about Sprint. I know Verizon has great service around here. But if I jump ship, I'm not jumping that way.

Still, good resource to have in-thread for others. :)

My husband just ended his contract with Sprint and left to come under my plan with a different company. He had been with them for some time because of the cost and they didn't require a down payment on the contract. He had trouble getting coverage in our apartment and also struggled in his office (in an all stone church building, but still). Some places were better than others, but he found on several occasions that his phone would not register calls in certain areas and he'd change locations and would suddenly have voicemails and texts. He did not have a smart phone, however, and his phone was a little older so he thinks that might have contributed as well but we are not really sure.

Either way when I became pregnant he wanted to ensure he could be reached at any point and decided to switch companies.

Ah. That's what I was afraid of. Many years back, I had Sprint and that's exactly the sort of service experience I encountered.

Boo hiss.

Glad you all don't have to put up with it further. Good luck with the kidlet, too!

Thanks!

It might be better with a smart phone on the network, or even with a slightly better/newer phone. Maybe someone else has a better experience with those than we did. I wish you luck in the process, it's always a pain to do the cell phone plan shuffle.

I've had sprint for over 3 years and I've never had a problem.

Oh! Cool! When I had Sprint a million years ago, I got terrible coverage in SqHill/Point Breeze, and iffy coverage in bigger buildings.

Are you using a smartphone? Does that make the real difference?

I do have a smartphone, but I haven't spent anytime recently in SqHill/Pt Breeze though.

I too have Sprint and I've had it for about five years. It's all been pretty good. I can't get coverage in the building where I work, but neither can anybody else regardless of provider.

I used to live in Squirrel Hill, and they had an outage there about a year and a half ago for a few days, and then they put up a new tower (that's what they said) and reception got 200% better.

I've had sprint for the last 10+ years, and it's spotty at times and great other times. I think maybe I don't rely on my phone as much as some people, so I've almost never had a time where I've noticed that I can't get a signal while someone else can. The biggest annoyance I have is that my house in Squirrel Hill seems to be a cell signal black box, so people frequently have to go out on the porch to make a phone call.
