i just got back yesterday from a few days in dublin and a day in london -- the area i was in in dublin had many great shopping destinations, but i was very taken aback by the fact everything closed at 6... is there some reason for that? seems like they're missing out of business by closing so early.

I think it's a government mandate. I know it was only maybe in the last 15 years that stores in England were allowed to open on Sunday, and it's only for a max of I think 8 hours. Even "24-hour" stores like Tesco and ASDA (the British arm of Wal-Mart) have to close on Sunday.

They're weird over here.

Ups and downs, my friend.

By the way, I'm in England sometime between March 30 and April 5. Are youze available?

I've been checking into going to school there, and it seems like I'm getting a series of roadblocks. How the heck are you guys affording this? I checked into a MA Ed. program, and it's 8400 GBP for ONE year. Then I have to do a certification program for one year that is even more, all because I'm not EU or British, which is fine enough, but to make it sting a little more, I'm not able to enter into any of the work-study programs, because of working hours restrictions. I can't believe all this.

I wish I had a week there to go around visiting places, but alas, no time or money to manage it. I'm accepted at W&M's program, but darnit, I wanted to go finish in England. I'm a bit bummed.

And finally, I never thought I'd hear anybody pine for Cox's customer service ;) Glad you got your work done.

We are indeed available! Just let us know the details and we will roll out the red carpet for you.

How are we affording this? Loans, loans, LOANS. Just for this year we ended up taking out $80k in Stafford loans and such. And the working restrictions do suck, but you find ways around it. Jess is in an internship that might hopefully (pray for this) land her a job, and there are actually a fair number of part-time jobs available. You just have to find the right fit.

Don't give up on the idea yet. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I was surprised to be wishing for Cox too, but at least Cox is semi-helpful. At least Cox is AVAILABLE. Cox should give Keycom lessons.

Hey, just wanted to let you know I still don't know about the details on exactly when I'll be there. I will definitely inform you when I do.
I can't wait to see you guys...and speak English. Oh my God, I think I'm going to cry when I set foot on English soil.

Man, and I wondered if there was a worse ISP than TimeWarner in the world. I'm gonna go with yes. Are they wicked expensive too?

Yes they are... and we have no other choice, considering they also provide the phone service.

Oh... plus, we were promised wifi on the accommodations website. Yeah... it's the StreetNet available through the Islington borough council, and it's only available if you're sitting on a bench along Holloway Road.

Wow, that sucks. I myself am hoping that someday Verizon's FIOS will be available where I live, because I will call TimeWarner and tell them to eat me so fast their heads will spin. Spin, I say.
