I think the back-and-forth and the tension of where-do-we-stand is well-handled with Danny and Flack. And I like the description like a last dying wish of a very insistent person, which is *very* Danny.

I also really like Stella's haranguing of Mac, which fits for both who she is and for what her relationship with Mac is like, and Danny's reaction to the entire thing. And my take on Mac is pretty much just that: any time he has on less than a full suit, he might just as well be full-on naked for all the comfort he evinces. I look at the suit and tie as sort of his uniform, for lack of a better term; since he no longer has the Marine uniforms (because even combat fatigues are a uniform), he turns to this instead. It's regimented and it commands respect. Being caught out of that, especially as he is here, where he's half undressed and it's Stella, seems to bring him to a level of vulnerability that he *really* does not deal with well, at all.

*g* Danny's very insistent, isn't he... *g* Unfortunately however, he can't really pick and choose when to insist and when not to. I mean, I think he insists on just about *everything*. It's good when he persists on cases. BUt... Like insisting he's like one of sorriest sods to ever grace God's green earth, or insisting that he can never live up to *cough*Mac's*cough* standards. Not very good ( ... )

Oh.. one question ;)
Why did he quit the Marines?

*sigh* They've never told us. (Yeeees, I'm frustrated by this.)

I dunno, I always get this thing that Mac is about truth, justice, valour, and as you say respect.

Yeah, I think he's the kind of guy who's probably got the Corps code of conduct memorized. He definitely embraces the Marines as a full-on lifestyle. (And it's telling that he refers to himself as being a Marine in the present tense, even though he has to have been out for a decade or more.) He's very into upholding all these values and doing the Right Thing, but he has trouble when it comes to actually applying any of it to his personal relationships.

But, as a CSI, relationships are rather... open and less regimented. Like Stella brazenly confronting him like that. And he can't even pull ranks like he did (if he did) with the Marines.Oh, yeah. He's very into chain of command, too, and the idea that there is one specific correct way to do things. He gets very upset when that's violated or challenged -- except, of ( ... )

*kicks cbs* damn you!!! why! oh why! oh well... *rubs hand with glee* now i can torture him some more... hah!

but he has trouble when it comes to actually applying any of it to his personal relationships.
does he even *have* a personal relationship? i know he loves his wife and all... i mean, but the cold, repressed sod that we see on television... professionally personal...

the last night we (some friends and myself) played pimm's-shot with csi:ny. one of them includes: drink one shot whenever you see mac smiles *voluntarily*. it was then upped from one shot to three, because there came the realisation that 'hey! at this rate, we're never going to get drunk'.

He wants to be able to control things, and he...can't.
*pats mac* poor mac. i wonder if he ever toys with the thought of going back to the marines...

Oh yeah. Stella is one scary, steely woman.

I bet Mac finds her uber-sexy. *eg*

Okay, now that I have read the whole thing... This is good. Very in character. I love the last bit with Mac and Stella. Well, all I wanted to say has already been said so, I'm just going to warn you that if you don't continue, I might go Tanglewood on something!
