i think in order to really under the movie, you have to get beyond the plot and see the symbolism of it. it really speaks to two points, at least that i saw. the first one is the evil of capitalism and greed. he started out as a poor worker, got rich, and turned evil because of the greed. the second is the relationship between business and religion. i think he sees the church as a haven for poor people to cope, and the preacher sees him as full of evil for being rich. and killing someone with a bowling pin is fucking sweet.
